As a Information and Privacy advisor, your main responsibilities will be:
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and respond to Freedom of Information (FOI), Environmental Information Regulation (EIR), Subject Access Requests (SARs), and other individual rights requests.
- Assess requests and apply relevant exemptions in line with legislation and guidance.
- Provide advice and guidance to colleagues across the Agency on information access and data protection matters.
- Maintain accurate records using the case management system.
- Coordinate responses and correspondence with the Information Commissioner 's Office (ICO).
- Develop and maintain the Agency 's publication scheme.
- Review and update information access policies and procedures.
- Support the investigation, assessment, and monitoring of personal data breaches.
- Assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), Privacy Notices, Data Sharing Agreements, contracts, and Records of Processing Activities (ROPA).
- Support audit, assurance, and risk management activities, including maintaining the Data Protection Risk Register.
- Produce management information, statistics, and KPI reports.
- Deliver awareness sessions, guidance, and training to promote a positive compliance culture across the Agency.
- Keep up to date with developments in information rights and data protection legislation.
About You
We 're looking for someone who has:
- A good understanding of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Environmental Information Regulations 2004, UK GDPR, and Data Protection Act 2018.
- Knowledge of Subject Access Requests and information rights legislation, including the application of exemptions.
- Experience working within an information access, compliance, legal, governance, customer service, or data protection environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to build effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
Desirable
- Freedom of Information Practitioner Certificate, currently studying towards the qualification, or the willingness and capability to undertake the qualification shortly after appointment.
- Experience managing FOI, EIR, SAR, or other information rights cases.
- Experience supporting governance, audit, or compliance activities.
