WiFi Architect
Contract Duration: 6 months initial
Location: Remote, London, United Kingdom
Key Responsibilities:
•Review and challenge Cisco's wireless design where necessary — must have sufficient expertise to hold their own in technical discussions with Cisco.
•Analyze RF survey outputs (predictive and active) using Ekahau AI — interpreting results, identifying access point placement decisions and advising on remediation and deviation.
•Produce formal RF survey assessment reports and wireless design documentation.
•Design and deliver traditional Cisco wireless deployments using paired Catalyst 9800 wireless LAN controllers and latest generation access points.
•Lead the migration from legacy AireOS 5508 controllers to Catalyst 9800 — planning, sequencing and executing with minimal disruption.
•Design FlexConnect traffic routing, RF profiles, SSIDs and access point configuration across complex
environments including bank atriums and high-density areas.
•Use Cisco Catalyst Centre for wireless provisioning, commissioning and day-2 operational management.
•Design Cisco ISE integrations for the wireless environment — 802.1X authentication and related workflows.
•Lead and direct a team of supporting WiFi and network engineers (currently two, with more to follow).
•Communicate clearly with the client and Cisco — managing pressure when issues arise, coordinating user migrations and keeping senior stakeholders informed.
•Operate within formal financial services change governance — CAB processes, maintenance windows and structured delivery methodologies.
Essential Skills:
•Hands-on Catalyst 9800 WLC — configuration, paired controller design and production deployment
•AireOS 5508 to 9800 migration — specific hands-on experience with this migration path is essential
•Ekahau AI — reading, supervising and interpreting RF survey outputs; translating results into deployment decisions
•FlexConnect — in-depth understanding and hands-on configuration experience
•Catalyst Centre — used for wireless provisioning, commissioning and day-2 management
•Cisco ISE integration design — 802.1X authentication workflows for the wireless environment
•Ability to review and challenge Cisco design decisions with authority
•Strong communication and stakeholder management - comfortable under pressure in a regulated client environment
•Experience leading or overseeing engineers on wireless delivery programmes
