WordPress Developer – Custom Development & Figma-to-WordPress

Part-Time WordPress Developer – Custom Development & Figma-to-WordPress

Location: Remote / Work From Home + 1–2 days per week in Canary Wharf, London
Experience: 3–5+ years
Engagement: Part-time / Project-based
Compensation: Approximately £150–£300 per website build/rebuild, depending on scope and complexity

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled WordPress Developer with strong custom coding experience who can take sophisticated Figma website designs and bring them to life as fully functional, pixel-accurate WordPress websites.

A major part of this role will be working directly from designs produced by our UI/UX designers in Figma. You will be responsible for translating those designs into polished, responsive and production-ready websites while maintaining the quality, detail and user experience of the original design.

You must have a strong eye for design implementation. We want someone who understands that the finished website should look and feel as close as possible to the approved Figma design — including layouts, typography, spacing, responsive behaviour, animations, interactions and finer UI details.

This is NOT an Elementor, Divi, WPBakery or drag-and-drop page builder position.

We are specifically looking for a developer with genuine custom coding ability who is comfortable building sophisticated WordPress websites using PHP, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and WordPress's native development framework.

Figma to WordPress Development

A core responsibility of this role is taking our approved Figma designs and bringing them to life in WordPress.

You should be confident taking a complete Figma project and independently understanding:

  • Page structures and layouts
  • Desktop, tablet and mobile designs
  • Components and reusable UI elements
  • Typography and spacing systems
  • Navigation and menus
  • Forms and interactive elements
  • Animations and transitions
  • Hover states and micro-interactions
  • Dynamic content requirements
  • Responsive behaviour
  • More sophisticated or unusual UI elements

You should then be able to turn those designs into a fully functional, responsive and high-performance WordPress website.

We are looking for someone who doesn't just make the website roughly similar to the Figma.

Attention to detail and design accuracy are extremely important.

The final website should properly bring the design to life.

What You'll Be Doing

You will be responsible for:

  • Taking completed Figma UI/UX designs and developing them into live WordPress websites
  • Producing highly accurate Figma-to-WordPress implementations
  • Building custom WordPress themes, templates and functionality
  • Developing without Elementor or other drag-and-drop page builders
  • Writing clean PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Creating sophisticated responsive layouts
  • Implementing animations, interactions and UI behaviour shown in the designs
  • Creating reusable components and templates
  • Developing custom post types, taxonomies and fields
  • Building dynamic and database-driven functionality
  • Integrating APIs and third-party services where required
  • Creating custom WordPress functionality where off-the-shelf solutions are not appropriate
  • Optimising websites for speed, performance and Core Web Vitals
  • Ensuring compatibility across modern browsers and devices
  • Working closely with our UI/UX designer throughout development
  • Reviewing builds against the original Figma files
  • Making revisions and refinements until the finished website accurately represents the approved design

No Page-Builder Developers

We are NOT looking for someone whose primary experience is Elementor, Divi, WPBakery, Visual Composer or similar drag-and-drop builders.

You may have worked with these tools previously, but you must have genuine custom WordPress development experience.

We need someone who can code.

You should understand WordPress architecture and be comfortable developing custom themes, templates, functionality and front-end experiences rather than depending on page builders and large numbers of plugins.

Technical Skills

You should have strong commercial experience with:

WordPress Development — custom themes, templates, hooks, filters, custom post types, taxonomies and WordPress architecture.

PHP — confident writing, modifying and debugging custom PHP.

HTML5 & CSS3 — excellent front-end skills with the ability to reproduce sophisticated Figma designs accurately.

JavaScript — capable of implementing custom interactions, animations and front-end functionality.

Figma — you do not need to be the UI/UX designer, but you must be extremely comfortable working from Figma files, inspecting designs, understanding components and translating designs accurately into code.

Responsive Development — strong understanding of how sophisticated designs should adapt across desktop, tablet and mobile.

Git / Version Control — comfortable working within organised development workflows.

Experience with ACF, custom Gutenberg blocks, REST APIs, AJAX, WooCommerce, third-party API integrations and performance optimisation would be highly desirable.

Experience Required

We are looking for someone with approximately 3–5+ years of solid commercial WordPress development experience.

Your portfolio should demonstrate that you have personally built high-quality websites from professional UI/UX designs.

We are particularly interested in seeing examples where you can show us:

Figma Design → Your Finished Live Website

We want to see how accurately you can take a professional design and bring it to life.

Working Arrangement

This is primarily a remote/work-from-home position, but you must be within reasonable travelling distance of Canary Wharf, London.

You will need to come into our Canary Wharf offices approximately once or twice per week when required to sit with the team, review Figma designs, compare designs against development builds, work through revisions and discuss technical requirements.

The remainder of the work can be completed remotely.

Compensation

We expect to pay approximately £150–£300 per website build/rebuild or defined development project, depending on complexity and scope.

There is potential for regular ongoing work for the right developer as we have multiple websites and digital projects requiring development.

Larger or more technically complex projects can be discussed and agreed separately.

How to Apply

Please send us:

  • 3–5 of your best WordPress websites
  • Examples of websites you personally developed from Figma designs
  • Where possible, the Figma design AND corresponding live website so we can compare your implementation
  • Details of exactly what you personally coded/developed on each project
  • Examples of custom PHP or WordPress functionality you have developed
  • GitHub/code samples if available
  • Your current availability
  • Confirmation that you can attend our Canary Wharf office once or twice per week when required
  • Your expected rate
