Contract Description

Belmond & Co is looking for a hands-on web developer and digital optimisation specialist to take day-to-day ownership of our websites and customer-facing digital experience.

This isn't a role for somebody who simply produces SEO reports, recommends website changes or passes development work to an agency.

We want somebody who can identify what needs improving and then build and implement the improvement themselves.

You will take practical ownership of our digital assets across front-end web development, UX, navigation, landing pages, content, technical and on-page SEO, search visibility, analytics, tracking and conversion optimisation.

What you'll do

You'll work directly on our websites to:

· build, amend and optimise pages, templates, forms, navigation and customer journeys;

· improve front-end functionality and user experience across desktop and mobile;

· create and optimise landing pages for paid search, paid social, organic search and other campaigns;

· ensure customers searching for Belmond and our services find the correct and most useful pages;

· maintain and improve technical and on-page SEO, including site architecture, internal linking, metadata

and other technical factors;

· ensure our search listings, corporate information, social links and wider digital presence remain

accurate and current;

· improve page speed, Core Web Vitals, accessibility and mobile performance;

· identify unnecessary steps, poor navigation, abandoned forms and other sources of friction and

implement improvements;

· set up and maintain accurate GA4, Google Tag Manager, Search Console and behavioural analytics;

· implement appropriate events, conversion tracking and data-layer requirements so that we can

measure customer behaviour throughout important journeys;

· design and implement A/B tests and other experiments and measure their commercial impact;

· maintain website content through the CMS and ensure important information remains accurate,

prominent and easy to find; and

· work with our marketing and technology teams to ensure advertising, search, website experience and

downstream customer journeys operate as one coherent funnel.

Technical capability

This is a genuinely hands-on role.

You should be comfortable personally building and modifying front-end website functionality rather than relying on a developer for routine implementation.

We expect strong practical capability in:

• HTML, CSS and JavaScript;

• responsive and mobile-first web development;

• CMS development and administration;

• website forms and customer journeys;

• APIs and third-party integrations;

• GA4 and Google Tag Manager;

• Google Search Console and technical SEO;

• debugging front-end and tracking issues; and

• version control and appropriate deployment/testing processes.

What we're looking for

We're particularly interested in people who combine technical ability with commercial judgement.

You should be able to demonstrate examples where you personally:

· identified a website or customer journey problem;

· used analytics, search data or customer behaviour to understand it;

· designed the solution;

· built and implemented the change; and

· measured what happened afterwards.

Experience in financial services, lead generation, ecommerce, insurance, claims or another regulated digital environment would be advantageous.

Engagement

  • This role is offered on a contractor basis at an indicative rate of £400- £550 per day, depending on experience and capability.
