✨ The Role

We need an experienced MySQL Database Administrator to join on an initial three-month contract (outside IR35), owning the database infrastructure behind our rail distribution platforms. These systems handle high-volume booking and ticketing transactions globally, so reliability and data integrity are critical. You'll work closely with engineering, infrastructure and platform teams. Ideal for a contractor who ramps up fast, with experience in high-transaction, high-availability systems.

🔧 What You'll Do

• Design and maintain MySQL schemas for scalable, high-performance applications
• Own administration of production databases, including monitoring and capacity planning
• Plan schema changes and migrations with minimal disruption
• Optimise queries, indexes, and schema design to reduce latency
• Maintain read/write splitting across primary and replica databases
• Manage AWS RDS - provisioning, patching, backups, and scaling
• Support disaster recovery planning and incident response
• Document standards and runbooks for the team

🎯 What You'll Bring

• 5+ years as a MySQL DBA, or a role with substantial MySQL responsibility
• Strong track record in schema design, indexing, query tuning, and performance monitoring
• Hands-on experience with AWS RDS and production read/write splitting

Desirable: Aurora, CloudWatch, or Terraform; travel, e-commerce, or financial services background
