They will lead activities to develop and commission software engineering work products and supporting artefacts, contributing to several activities throughout the software engineering life cycle. They will take responsibility for activities to design, code, analyse and verify Software components of the product and ensure the appropriate documents are recorded
The role holder will provide technical direction, coach and develop engineers, and ensure high quality software delivery across multiple workstreams. Working closely with the Team Leads, the role holder will shape priorities, drive engineering excellence and ensure the team delivers secure, reliable and mission critical capability to the fleet.

- Lead activities to define and capture the design of software components, to meet identified requirements by following appropriate design standards and principles. Ensure design artefacts are maintained, to take account of change following release of the software and/or system.
- Review and analyse software work products, to ensure the Software is robust and efficient.
- Define strategies, develop associated plans and lead the activities to identify and record the activities required to verify software elements, tailoring the approach dependent on the criticality of the element (e.g. safety critical testing should be comprehensive)
- Oversee development and maintenance of software work products to ensure that the Software meets customer requirements, using an iterative or sequential development life cycle model
