Essential Skills
- Define and lead the technical product vision and strategy for Microsoft 365 services, aligning to Service Owner priorities and organisational objectives. Ensure the strategy is evidence-based, delivers intended outcomes, and is continuously reviewed and iterated using user, operational, and organisational insights.
- Develop and maintain a prioritised product roadmap, planning work across multiple teams to deliver value efficiently while managing dependencies, risks, and trade-offs across engineering, delivery, and live service.
- Own the technical direction of the M365 platform, working in partnership with Technical Architects (design authority) to ensure solutions are secure, scalable, and aligned to enterprise architecture standards. Influence design decisions and ensure appropriate trade-offs between usability, performance, cost, and risk.
- Provide end-to-end product accountability across delivery and live service, ensuring alignment between product strategy, delivery execution (via Senior Delivery Managers), and operational performance (via Operations Managers). Resolve competing priorities and ensure cohesive outcomes across all domains.
- Work directly with engineering teams to translate strategy into technical requirements and prioritised backlogs, ensuring delivery reflects user needs, technical feasibility, and service sustainability. Act as escalation point for complex technical, delivery, or operational issues.
- Lead and manage product lifecycle decisions, using data and evidence to determine when to continue, pivot, or stop initiatives, and guiding teams and stakeholders through all lifecycle phases to maximise value.
- Embed security, governance, and compliance-by-design across all M365 services, including identity, access management, and information protection controls, ensuring alignment to policy, regulatory requirements, and organisational risk appetite.
- Ensure services are operable, reliable, and continuously improved in live service, using performance data (e.g. incidents, adoption, service metrics) to inform roadmap prioritisation and platform evolution.
- Apply and promote Agile and lean delivery practices, selecting appropriate ways of working, encouraging experimentation, and ensuring teams measure and iterate based on outcomes and effectiveness.
- Drive value for money across the platform by balancing user needs and organisational benefits against cost, supporting business case development, and influencing investment and prioritisation decisions.
- Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, developing communication strategies, influencing senior stakeholders, and ensuring alignment across Service Owner, Architecture, Engineering, Delivery, and Operations.
- Represent product leadership at a senior level, championing product management practices, protecting teams from unnecessary disruption, and fostering collaboration, reuse, and continuous improvement across the organisation.
- Advocate for and apply user insights, ensuring that user needs are consistently represented in decision-making and that research and feedback inform prioritisation, design, and service improvements.
- Lead and develop multi-disciplinary capability across product, engineering, delivery, and operations, coaching and mentoring others and contributing to the wider product and digital community.
