Data Modeller at Haven, Remote, 6 Months, £Contract Rate (Outside IR35)

Contract Description

Data Engineer (Modelling) - Contract

UK Remote

6-Month Contract | Competitive day rate | Outside IR35

About the role

Are you a specialist data modeller who does your best work under a clear brief and a defined timeframe? Do you take pride in leaving behind data models that are cleaner, better documented and more useful than what you found?

At Haven, great holidays are powered by great data and we're bringing in a Data Engineer (Modelling) on a 6-month outside-IR35 contract to strengthen the modelling craft at the heart of our data platform. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused engagement for a seasoned dimensional modeller who can hit the ground running, integrate quickly into a squad, and start shipping high-quality Kimball models in dbt from week one.

This contract role is focused on designing and evolving dimensional models across guest, booking, revenue and operational domains, sharpening our semantic layer in dbt, and raising the bar on data quality, testing and documentation. It's a chance to bring your experience to a business where the modelling work genuinely matters.

This is a contract for a data modelling expert who prefers depth over breadth, cares about craft, and enjoys the focus that comes with a defined engagement.

Deliverables:

  • Design, build and evolve dimensional data models using Kimball methodology, delivering high-quality outcomes at pace across a defined 6-month engagement
  • Craft and improve the transformation and semantic layer in dbt, turning raw source data into trusted, well-documented business truth
  • Model complex domains (guests, bookings, revenue, operations) in ways that are intuitive, performant and built to outlast your contract
  • Contribute technical insight and a strong point of view on modelling trade-offs in product and engineering ceremonies
  • Raise the bar on data quality, testing and documentation as first-class parts of the modelling craft
  • Share modelling patterns and best practice with the wider squad, leaving the team stronger than you found it
  • Communicate progress, risks and design decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Use AI coding tools thoughtfully to accelerate delivery without compromising quality

Required Skills/Experience

  • Deep, proven experience of dimensional data modelling (Kimball) delivered in commercial environments, with strong SQL and dbt at the core, and a track record of shipping high-quality models
  • A genuine passion for data modelling craft: clean design, sensible grain, thoughtful naming, and models that stand up to real-world use
  • Solid working knowledge of cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks) and comfort with scheduling and orchestration tools such as Airflow
  • Confident with testing practices (TDD), DevOps and CI/CD as applied to analytics engineering workflows
  • Intermediate skills in software design principles, security best practice, Linux, git workflow and solution architecture
  • Confident use of Python where it supports the modelling work, and comfort managing your own local development environment
  • Ability to leverage AI coding tools thoughtfully to accelerate delivery without compromising quality
  • Excellent self-direction and time management - essential for delivering at pace in a remote-first setup
  • A collaborative, delivery-focused mindset with the confidence to integrate quickly into a squad and start adding value from day one
  • Available to start promptly and commit to a full 6-month engagement, operating outside IR35
