The Role:

We are seeking a highly accomplished Principal Salesforce Architect specialising in the Energy & Utilities (E&U) Cloud (formerly Vlocity) to conduct an end-to-end technical, architectural, and quality review of our clients Salesforce platform.

This critical, high-impact advisory role is designed for a deep technical expert who can audit our complex Salesforce environment, which powers key consumer journeys, service desks, and billing integration points. Your primary objective will be to evaluate our custom and declarative configurations to identify technical debt, maximise processing efficiency, enforce industry best practices, and mitigate release risks.

If you are a technical leader who blends deep Vlocity/OmniStudio expertise with a robust software engineering background and a passion for architectural excellence, this role offers the opportunity to safeguard and optimize a critical utility platform.

Core Review Objectives & Responsibilities

As the Principal Architect, you will lead the comprehensive technical audit. Your responsibilities will center on four key pillars:

1. Platform Efficiency & Performance Auditing

  • OmniStudio Performance: Audit and benchmark OmniStudio components, specifically focusing on optimizing complex OmniScripts, Integration Procedures, FlexCards, and DataRaptor performance to reduce lag and improve user experience.
  • Integration Optimization: Review third-party API and integration frameworks especially downstream connections to billing systems to identify latencies, processing bottlenecks, and failure points.
  • Scalability Assessment: Evaluate how the platform behaves under peak load and advise on structural changes to ensure transaction speeds remain optimal during seasonal billing or high-traffic periods.

2. Code Quality & Architectural Integrity

  • Custom Framework Audit: Inspect custom Apex design patterns, Lightning Web Components (LWC), and complex declarative flows to verify clean code compliance, maintainability, and architectural best practices.
  • Declarative vs. Programmatic Review: Identify areas where custom programmatic code can be decommissioned in favor of scalable, robust declarative features.
  • Technical Debt Mapping: Document and categorize technical debt, prioritizing remediation steps into a structured, executable roadmap for delivery teams.

3. Industry Standards & Standard Feature Enforcement

  • Managed Package Alignment: Ensure the platform remains closely aligned with standard Communications, Media, and Energy (CME) managed package patterns, minimizing non-standard customization.
  • Data Model & EPC Compliance: Review the design and configuration of the Energy & Utilities data model and the Enterprise Product Catalog (EPC) to confirm alignment with OOTB platform capabilities.
  • Future Upgrade Readiness: Assess customizations to ensure they do not block or complicate automatic Salesforce platform upgrades or CME release cycles.

4. Release Engineering & Risk Mitigation

  • CI/CD & DevOps Pipeline Audit: Review our current deployment strategies, sandbox structures, and CI/CD automation pipelines (GitHub) to maximise release velocity and minimize deployment errors.
  • Governor Limits & Security: Evaluate the system’s exposure to Salesforce governor limits, asynchronous processing limits, and security controls (sharing rules, field-level security, and profile structures).

Required Technical Skillset & Experience:

Technical Mastery

  • Salesforce Industries (Vlocity): Extensive, hands-on experience with the CME Managed Package, Salesforce Energy & Utilities Cloud, Configure-Price-Quote (CPQ), and Enterprise Product Catalog (EPC).
  • OmniStudio Suite: Deep, authoritative understanding of OmniScripts, Integration Procedures, DataRaptors (Turbo, Extract, Transform, Load), and FlexCards.
  • Core Salesforce Development: Strong foundation in core programmatic Salesforce architecture, including custom Apex development, trigger frameworks, asynchronous processing, and Lightning Web Components (LWC).
  • Modern DevOps Standards: Proven experience establishing sandbox strategies, utilizing static code analysis tools (e.g., PMD, Salesforce Code Analyzer), and managing CI/CD pipelines.

Sector & Domain Expertise

  • Energy & Utilities Sector: Deep understanding of sector-specific business processes, such as utility billing models (B2B/B2C), market switching, customer onboarding, smart-metering integrations, and compliance regulations.
  • Complex Integrations: Proven history of reviewing and designing integrations between Salesforce and ERP/billing solutions, CRM middleware, and legacy mainframe systems.

Advisory & Leadership Soft Skills

  • Stakeholder Translation: Ability to translate complex technical risks, technical debt, and architectural gaps into clear, commercial roadmaps for business leaders.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Experience acting as a trusted advisor, working alongside internal development teams, technical leads, and system integrators to align technical action with strategic business goals.
