Senior Data Center Engineer
Bristol, UK – Onsite
Contractor Inside IR35 or 6 month Fixed Term Employment Contract
Infrequent Travel Required to Israel (travel expenses paid)
Are you a hands-on data center expert who thrives on solving complex infrastructure challenges? We’re looking for a Senior Data Center Engineer to lead large-scale, enterprise-grade data center initiatives, driving projects from initial assessment through to full operational readiness.
Based in Bristol, this is a high-impact role where you’ll be at the forefront of data center transformation, shaping resilient, scalable environments while partnering directly with clients and senior stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing:
- Own end-to-end data center transformation programmes:
- Lead comprehensive assessments of existing data center environments, covering infrastructure, power, cooling, network, and hardware
- Identify risks, constraints, and dependencies to inform modernization and migration strategies
- Translate complex findings into clear, actionable insights and recommendations
- Design and deliver next-generation data center environments:
- Architect target-state solutions including rack layouts, power distribution, cooling strategies, and structured cabling
- Drive capacity planning, redundancy, and scalability aligned with enterprise standards
- Produce detailed, high-quality infrastructure design documentation
- Drive migration readiness and execution planning:
- Map dependencies and design migration sequencing, risk mitigation, and validation frameworks
- Develop readiness assessments, checklists, and acceptance criteria
- Collaborate across teams to ensure all infrastructure components are fully prepared for transition
- Engage, influence, and lead:
- Facilitate client workshops, technical discovery sessions, and design reviews
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Act as a trusted advisor, confidently driving decisions in client-facing environments
- Ensure governance and delivery excellence:
- Produce robust documentation including assessment reports, design packs, and executive summaries
- Maintain traceability across risks, assumptions, and design decisions
- Align delivery with compliance, security, and data center governance standards
What you’ll bring:
- Extensive years of hands-on data center engineering experience
- Deep expertise across:
- Rack design, capacity planning, and physical infrastructure
- Power systems (UPS, PDUs, redundancy, load balancing)
- Cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH, airflow optimization, containment)
- Structured cabling (fiber, copper, labeling standards)
- Network fundamentals (switching, routing, VLANs)
- Compute, storage, and virtualization platforms (e.g., Dell, HPE, Cisco, VMware)
- Strong analytical capability in dependency mapping and gap analysis
- Proven experience delivering complex, time-sensitive infrastructure programmes
- Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Flexibility to work in hands-on data center environments, including physical setup when required
Travel requirements:
- Willingness to travel to Israel to assess current environments, produce detailed findings, and define migration strategies
