Data Architect / Principal Data Engineer (GCP)

Contract: Initial 3 Months
Location: Fully Remote
Status: Outside IR35

We are looking for a highly experienced Data Architect / Principal Data Engineer with deep, hands-on GCP expertise to support a major data transformation programme within a regulated financial services environment.

This is not an advisory role. We need someone who has personally designed, built and owned enterprise-scale GCP data platforms in production and can lead both architecture and delivery.

Key Requirements

• 7+ years' hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

• Proven experience designing and building production-grade data platforms using:

  • BigQuery

  • Dataflow

  • Pub/Sub

  • Python

  • APIs and containerised services

• Strong data architecture experience, including conceptual, logical and physical data modelling

• Experience establishing governance frameworks, metadata management, data quality standards and AI-ready data foundations

• Expertise in Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD delivery practices

• Strong stakeholder engagement and technical leadership skills

• Financial Services experience is highly desirable, ideally within a regulated environment and large-scale data transformation programme

The Opportunity

You'll be responsible for defining data architecture, establishing platform standards and governance, and delivering scalable cloud-native solutions on GCP. This role requires someone who can operate strategically while remaining hands-on and technically credible.
