Contract Description

Service Designer

Duration: 6-Months Initially

Location: Hybrid will require travel to Newcastle

Clearance: SC Eligible (Active SC would be preferred)

Engagement Type: Inside IR35

Start Date: 29/06/2026

We’re looking for a thoughtful, adaptable, and proactive Service Designer to join a complex and evolving programme environment where ambiguity is part of the challenge — and part of the opportunity.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in environments that are still taking shape, can build trust across difficult stakeholder landscapes, and is motivated by influencing change where traditional delivery structures don’t always exist.

The Opportunity

You’ll play a key role in shaping internally focused services that currently have broad applications but no clearly defined end-user landscape yet. This means working across multiple teams, uncovering needs as you go, and helping create clarity where there currently isn’t much.

You’ll be joining an environment that doesn’t always follow standard delivery frameworks or predictable processes. While many Service Designers are familiar with structured GDS delivery phases, this role requires someone comfortable operating with less rigidity, greater autonomy, and evolving priorities.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Designing and improving services within a complex internal landscape
  • Navigating ambiguity and working effectively with stakeholders who may be cautious, difficult to access, or operating in sensitive environments
  • Building strong relationships with teams who may not yet be engaged or fully bought into service design approaches
  • Identifying opportunities, aligning perspectives, and helping teams move toward shared outcomes
  • Bringing structure and momentum to non-standard delivery environments
  • Collaborating across multidisciplinary teams to shape practical and user-informed solutions
  • Helping define and evolve service direction where requirements are still emerging

What We’re Looking For

We’d love to hear from Service Designers who are:

  • Comfortable working in ambiguity and able to create clarity in evolving environments
  • Confident engaging with complex or sometimes secretive stakeholder groups
  • Naturally proactive and relationship-driven
  • Experienced in influencing teams that may initially be resistant to change
  • Adaptable in delivery environments that are less process-driven or methodical
  • Skilled at balancing strategic thinking with practical delivery
  • Calm, resilient, and collaborative in fast-moving settings
