The role:

 

Babcock have been awarded the contract to run and modernise the UK MOD satellite network, Skynet. As part of this programme, we are looking for an experienced Telecoms/Satcom engineer with current expertise in the support of Internet Protocol (IP) networks and a knowledge of satellite communications systems. The role would provide third line support to the network, undertaking fault investigations and performing upgrades and enhancements. The successful candidate would also support an On-call rota for out of hours support. Experience in the security aspect of Military communication networks would also be valuable.

This role will be responsible for:

 

  • Responding to customer faults, network incidents and performance issues.
  • Managing the installation and configuration of new system elements.
  • Test and commissioning of new equipment and services.
  • Ensuring new services and systems meet UK security requirements.
  • Managing obsolescence within the existing system to ensure the system remains supportable and compliant to security requirements.
  • Provide 3rd/4th line technical support to the customer, 3rd parties and wider Skynet teams.
  • Part of an on-call rota to support fault diagnosis and rectification out of normal working hours.

 

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides an opportunity for hybrid working arrangements.

The role holder will be required to join an ‘on call’ rota with an additional allowance paid when assigned.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the above qualities and experience in:

 

Must have:

  • Experience in the design and delivery of IP communication networks, ideally with Cisco accreditation.
  • Knowledge of IP network architectures
  • Knowledge of RF Satellite communications technology would be an advantage.
  • Experience working in a telecommunications or satellite communication company.

 

Would ideally have:

  • Experience with the MILSATCOM domain.
  • Experience in the design of defence grade communication systems.
  • Experience in Systems Engineering lifecycle and processes.
  • Understanding of serial communications services

 

Education and qualifications

  • Degree or a qualification with equivalent demonstratable experience in a relevant Engineering Discipline.
  • A valid Cisco Associate (CCNA) certification is preferred as a minimum

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a SOLE UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. However, the successful candidate must be able to achieve Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance once in post.
