Technology Scout at Level Four Seven, Remote, £Freelance Rate

Contract Description

Please note that this is a freelance, remote role with no fixed hours. Level Four Seven is based in the UK, but our work is focused across Europe, and we welcome applications from people who can contribute remotely from wherever they are based.

At Level Four Seven, we help challenge owners and startups, scaleups and spinouts execute well-designed, real-world pilots.

To do this well, we need a broad and constantly evolving view of emerging solutions across sectors, geographies, and technology domains. We know that many of the best leads come from people who are close to the action: operators, engineers, researchers, consultants, and investors who see interesting technologies long before anyone else.

Our Technology Scout Network is a way to recognise and reward that insight.

How it Works

1. You join our scout network

  • You share a bit about your background, sectors you know, and regions you cover.
  • If there’s a fit between us, we’ll confirm you as part of the network and provide access to our Technology Scout portal.

2. You introduce technology providers to us

  • When you come across a technology provider or solution that might fit, you enter their details into the portal (company, contact, what problem it addresses, why you think it’s credible).
  • Ideally, you already know the team and can make a warm introduction.

3. We assess the fit

  • We evaluate whether the solution is a potential match for our corporate or investor clients.
  • We may contact you for clarification, but you are not responsible for selling the pilot.

4. If it reaches deep diligence, you receive £500

  • If a technology provider you introduced progresses to deep diligence with Level Four Seven on behalf of a challenge owner, you receive a £500 scout fee.
  • This fee is paid per qualifying progression made within 12 months of your introduction, not simply per technology provider or per challenge owner. A single technology provider may generate more than one reward if it progresses through separate qualifying opportunities with different challenge owners.

5. If it later goes to pilot with us, you receive a further £1,500

  • If that same technology provider later goes on to a signed pilot project that we are directly involved in facilitating, you receive a further £1,500.
  • This fee is paid for each qualifying pilot engagement within 24 months of your introduction. This means a strong introduction may lead to more than one reward over time.

Example

If you introduce a technology provider to us and it later enters deep diligence with us for three separate challenge owners, you receive 3 × £500. If that same technology provider later signs two Level Four Seven-facilitated pilots with two challenge owners, you receive a further 2 × £1,500, making £4,500 in total.

What we mean by deep diligence

Deep diligence means a formal, substantive review by Level Four Seven for a challenge owner, beyond an initial fit check or introductory conversation. It may include deeper technical, commercial, and pilot-feasibility assessment to decide whether a technology provider should move forward towards a pilot opportunity.

Who It's For

You might be a good fit if:

  • You work in or around deep-tech, industrial technology, climate/energy, advanced manufacturing, health-tech, etc.
  • You regularly see new or under-the-radar solutions and enjoy connecting good people with useful opportunities.
  • You are comfortable making warm, professional introductions.
  • You are happy to work in a lightweight, non-exclusive, independent way (this is not an employment relationship).

What We Are Looking For

The list will evolve, but as a guide, we are especially interested in:

  • Innovative deep-tech, hard-tech and science-based technology solutions.
  • Solutions that are beyond the idea stage (e.g. working prototypes, pilots already completed in at least one site, or early commercial deployments).
  • Teams that are credible and coachable, even if they are still early.
  • Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4–7 in Europe (incl. the UK).

We are less likely to pursue consumer apps, marketplaces, SaaS, cryptocurrency, or very early ideas without a working proof of concept.

We will update scouts periodically on our current focus so you can decide what to send through.

How We Work with Scouts

  • You remain independent. This is not employment or an agency contract.
  • We do not expect exclusivity. You may work with other organisations, as long as you respect any confidentiality obligations.
  • We do ask you to declare any conflicts of interest (for example, if you are an investor, advisor, or employee of a company you introduce).
  • We may stop accepting new submissions from a scout if we feel there is a repeated mismatch with what we are looking for, or if conflicts cannot be managed.

Reward and Conditions (Summary)

You may expect to receive a £500 progression fee when:

  • You submitted the technology provider to us before we had direct contact with that company.
  • The technology provider progresses to deep diligence with Level Four Seven on behalf of a challenge owner.
  • The qualifying progression takes place within 12 months of your introduction.
  • You have provided accurate information and respected any confidentiality or conflict-of-interest requirements.

You may expect to receive a further £1,500 pilot fee when:

  • The same technology provider later enters into a signed pilot project that Level Four Seven is directly involved in designing, facilitating, or evaluating.
  • Our engagement on that pilot has formally started.
  • The qualifying pilot engagement takes place within 24 months of your introduction.

You should be aware that:

  • Many interesting technology provider will not reach qualified progression or pilot stage.
  • We cannot guarantee any minimum number of submissions, progressions, pilots, or payments.
  • A single technology provider may lead to more than one payment where there are separate qualifying progressions or pilot engagements.
  • We may adapt or end the scout programme at any time for new submissions, but we will honour any rewards already earned under the agreed terms applying at the time of submission.

You may wish to treat this as occasional side income, not as a primary source of earnings.
