Salesforce Technical Architect at Handelsbanken Plc, London, 12 Months, £Competitive Day Rate

Contract Description

Salesforce Technical Architect (12m Day Rate Contractor)

{ ʺdescription ʺ: ʺ Job Introduction

Main Responsibilities

The Technical Architect (Salesforce) is accountable for the end-to-end technical integrity of the Salesforce platform across Financial Services Cloud (FSC), OmniStudio, and Experience Cloud. Working closely with the other architects, the role sets and enforces the technical direction for delivery teams - governing solution design, development standards, platform security, and DevOps practices.

The role serves as the primary technical authority within the delivery organisation: making high-consequence design decisions, resolving complex platform challenges, and ensuring that custom development and integrations are fit for purpose in a regulated banking environment.

Equally, the Technical Architect is a people leader - mentoring developers, setting the standard for engineering craft, and building a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement across the team.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Solution Design

• Own end-to-end technical architecture for the Salesforce platform - covering FSC,OmniStudio, Experience Cloud, and integrated systems - ensuring designs are scalable, secure, and aligned to enterprise architecture principles.
• Produce and maintain technical design documents, solution architecture records, integration specifications, and data flow diagrams to organisation standards.
• Define clear boundaries between declarative configuration and programmatic development - making well-reasoned, documented decisions on when custom Apex, LWC, or integration development is warranted.
• Lead technical proof of concept development to validate platform feasibility, performance, and integration patterns ahead of build commitment.
• Evaluate partner and AppExchange products against platform fit, security posture, and total cost of ownership - providing clear recommendations with documented trade-offs.
• Provide technical input into the strategic Salesforce platform roadmap, working with the other architects and Salesforce design authority to align delivery priorities to long-term architecture goals.
Platform Security & Compliance

• Serve as the primary technical authority on Salesforce platform security within the bank - covering authentication architecture, authorisation models, data classification, field-level security, and sharing rules.
• Design and govern authentication and identity patterns for Experience Cloud portals - including SAML 2.0, OIDC, and IdP integration (such as Entra ID) - working closely with InfoSec and enterprise architects.
• Ensure all technical designs comply with the bank 's Risk Management Framework, data protection obligations, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with InfoSec on penetration test findings, vulnerability remediation, and platform hardening - translating security requirements into actionable technical controls.
Development Governance

• Set, enforce, and continuously improve Salesforce development standards - including Apex coding standards, LWC design patterns, test coverage requirements, and documentation conventions.
• Conduct thorough code reviews, providing constructive, standards-based feedback, and formally sign off technical designs before development commences.
• Establish and maintain aTestDataFactorystrategy and Apex test standards, ensuring test suites are meaningful, maintainable, and performant.
• Champion declarative-first design principles - intervening where custom development is being introduced unnecessarily or without adequate technical justification.
• Identify and remediate technical debt proactively, maintaining a register of known platform risks and agreed resolution timelines.
DevOps & Delivery

• Responsible forthe Salesforce DevOps strategy and toolchain - including branching strategy, environment management, pipeline configuration (Azure DevOps), static analysis, and deployment automation.
• Define and govern the environment topology - sandbox tiering, data masking, refresh cadence - ensuring environments are fit for purpose across the delivery lifecycle.
• Ensure metadata dependency management is understood and controlled - advising functional and delivery teams on the implications of cross-team changes.
• Support release planning and coordinate technical release activities, working with delivery teams to ensure deployments are low-risk and reversible where possible.
Team Leadership & Mentoring

• Provide day-to-day technical leadership and direction to the development team - setting expectations for quality, pace, and engineering craft.
• Actively mentor developers at all levels - providing structured guidance on platform capabilities, design thinking, and professional development.
• Drive the team 's technical training agenda and certification pathway, aligning skill development to current and upcoming delivery demands.
• Participate in and provide technical leadership within agile ceremonies - sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint review - ensuring stories are technically sound before sprint entry.
• Contribute to the Salesforce Community of Practice - sharing architectural patterns, lessons learned, and platform expertise across the wider organisation.
