About Open Door Digital

 


Open Door Digital is a web design and digital marketing agency based in Crowborough, East Sussex. We work with small to medium‑sized businesses across a wide range of sectors, helping them create effective, well‑designed websites that support real business goals.

We’re looking for a motivated, detail‑focused Web Developer with strong WordPress and design skills to support both new and existing client projects.

This is a six‑month contract, working two to three full days per week. The working days are flexible and can be agreed at the outset, but should remain consistent each week.

The role is primarily remote, with regular Teams meetings and occasional in‑person meetings. For this reason, applicants should be based within approximately one hour of Crowborough, East Sussex.

 


The Role

You’ll be involved across the full website lifecycle, working closely with our team and, at times, directly with clients.

 


Key responsibilities include:

New website development

  • Designing and building new websites in WordPress
  • Producing clean, professional and effective designs for SME clients

 


Existing website development

  • Developing new pages and functionality for existing client websites
  • Working mainly with WordPress sites using the Total theme, although a few use the Elementor theme and some have a custom-built theme.

 


Website administration & support

  • Updating website content (primarily WordPress)
  • Debugging and resolving layout or functionality issues

 


Essential Skills & Experience

Technical skills– development

  • Strong WordPress skills (installation, updates, testing)
  • WP Bakery / Visual Composer
  • HTML and CSS
  • Responsive web design principles
  • Cross‑device/platform testing

 


Technical skills – design

  • Strong visual design skills with an eye for clean, professional layouts
  • Experience using Figma and Photoshop

 


Other skills

  • Excellent written English
  • Strong time management and organisation skills
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and meet deadlines

 


Personal Qualities

  • High standards and willingness to check your own work
  • Confident taking initiative, while knowing when to ask for guidance
  • Comfortable being client‑facing when required
  • Friendly, approachable, and a collaborative team player
  • Enjoys creating effective websites for small and medium‑sized businesses

Contract Details

  • Contract length: 6 months
  • Working pattern: 3 days per week (days agreed in advance)
  • Location: Remote, with occasional in‑person meetings (must be based within one hour of Crowborough, East Sussex)
  • Day rate: £250–£340, depending on experience
  • NDA: Successful candidates must be willing to sign a non‑disclosure agreement

Process:

We will offer a first round of interviews by Teams.

After that, we’ll then ask candidates to complete a test page set up, using Wordpress Total theme and an existing website. All content will be provided.

We’ll then conduct a final Teams interview to select the successful candidate.
