The Role
We are looking to engage a Product Owner on a contract basis, to join our delivery teams working with a Central Government client. This role will be suited to someone comfortable working in a fast-paced, agile environment, balancing stakeholder needs with pragmatic delivery.
You’ll take ownership of the product backlog, working closely with stakeholders to define, prioritise, and deliver features that meet user needs. Acting as the voice of the customer within the team, you’ll collaborate with engineers, analysts, and delivery leads to ensure requirements are clearly understood and translated into valuable, usable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage the product backlog, ensuring clear prioritisation aligned to client objectives
- Translate business and policy requirements into well-defined user stories and acceptance criteria
- Collaborate closely with data engineers, analysts, and developers to guide delivery
- Engage with senior stakeholders across government to gather requirements and provide updates
- Ensure products meet user needs, accessibility standards, and government digital service expectations
- Support sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives as part of an agile delivery team
- Make informed trade-offs between scope, time, and quality
- Champion a user-centred, data-informed approach to product development
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Product Owner or similar role in agile environments
- Experience working with data products, analytics platforms, or data-driven services
- Strong understanding of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working with UK public sector or government clients
- Strong stakeholder management and facilitation skills
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, or similar
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Experience working in a consultancy environment
- Knowledge of UK Government Digital Service (GDS) standards
- Exposure to data governance, data architecture, or data platforms
