Contract Description

Role Title: OpenShift Infrastructure Engineer (Data Protection Specialist)

Key Responsibilities

  • NetBackup Integration: Deploy and configure the NetBackup Kubernetes operator using Helm charts within Red Hat OpenShift clusters.
  • Virtualization Protection: Implement and manage data protection strategies for Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization VMs and persistent volumes.
  • Backup Policy Management: Create automated policies to discover and protect namespaces, ensuring rapid recovery of applications and VMs.
  • Data Protection Strategy: Design and implement backup/recovery strategies for Kubernetes apps, OpenShift Virtualization VMs, and hybrid workloads.
  • Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Monitor backup jobs, resolve failures, perform restores, and address connectivity issues (Firewalls, storage).
  • Data Mover Setup: Configure NetBackup Elastic Data Mover Pods to move snapshot backups to off-cluster media, including NetBackup appliances or cloud storage.
  • Security & Compliance: Implement ransomware-resilient, immutable storage solutions for backups and manage Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) for NetBackup operators.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve backup/restore failures in OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) environments, including OADP (OpenShift APIs for Data Protection).
  • Platform Expertise: Manage OpenShift cluster components, namespaces, storage (PVCs/PVs), and networking (Multus CNI)

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Expertise in Red Hat OpenShift: Deep understanding of OpenShift Container Platform (OCP), Kubernetes constructs, and Operators (specifically openshift-cnv or KubeVirt).
  • NetBackup Administration: Proven experience with Veritas NetBackup 10.x, particularly in Kubernetes/container environments.
  • Commvault: Expertise in Commvault platform, Metallic AI, Kubernetes Protection Package, and VM backup/recovery
  • Storage Knowledge: Familiarity with Container Storage Interface (CSI), Persistent Volumes (PV), and Persistent Volume Claims (PVC).
  • Hybrid Cloud Experience: Experience managing OpenShift across on-premises and public cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Scripting/Linux: Proficiency in RHEL, Python, or Shell Scripting for automation.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with OADP (OpenShift APIs for Data Protection) or Velero.
  • Knowledge of NetBackup Appliance (Flex Appliance).
  • Familiarity with container security tools like Red Hat Advanced Cluster Security.
