Business Intelligence Developer - Power BI at Newtyne, Edinburgh, 6 Months, to £600 per day (Outside IR35)

Our client is modernising its data and analytics capability as they transition from on-premise systems to cloud-based reporting solutions. They are investing in a next-generation Power BI platform aligned with strategic cloud data sources such as Snowflake to deliver scalable, secure and high-performance insights across the business. Newtyne are seeking an experienced Business Intelligence Developer to play a key role in this transformation.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead the end-to-end migration of existing on-premise Power BI reports and dashboards to the cloud version of Power BI
• Refactor existing Power BI solutions to use Snowflake as the primary data source, replacing Legacy systems where appropriate
• Optimise migrated dashboards for performance, usability and maintainability in the cloud environment
• Design and implement robust dataset, model and workspace structures aligned with best practices for Power BI Cloud
• Collaborate with the Senior Power BI Engineer to design, build and maintain an automated deployment pipeline for Power BI Cloud artefacts (reports, datasets, workspaces)
• Implement and maintain governance standards, including naming conventions, access controls, and version management for Power BI assets
• Provide 3rd line support for complex issues related to Power BI reports, datasets and gateways, including root cause analysis and long-term fixes
• Work closely with the Data Development and Data Engineering teams to ensure consistent and reliable integration between Power BI and Snowflake
• Document solution designs, data flows and configuration for migrated and newly developed Power BI assets

Required background and skills:

Minimum 5+ years' experience in a Business Intelligence/Data Development role

Modelling of complex business data (conceptual, tabular)

Report/dashboard design and development within Microsoft Power BI

Data querying languages and techniques (SQL, DAX)

Experience working with Snowflake is desirable

Experience working within the Finance industry is desirable

Strong analytical skills; ability to understand problems and express their complexity in clear terms to technical and non-technical stakeholders
