Data Cabling Engineer - Contractor at IKM Network Communications Ltd, Cardiff, £Contract Rate

Contract Description

IKM Network Communications Ltd is a leading provider of network infrastructure services. We’re looking for self-employed Data Cabling Engineers , including junior or newly qualified engineers , to support projects across Cardiff and surrounding areas .

You will work across a variety of sites including offices, hospitals and universities installing and testing structured cabling systems.

This role would suit someone reliable who can work independently or as part of a small team.

This is a contractor role (not permanent employment) . Contractors must operate as a limited company or sole trader and provide their own transport, tools, PPE and insurance. Contractors are responsible for their own tax and National Insurance obligations.

Due to the nature of some sites, work is subject to a satisfactory DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check , which IKM will arrange and pay for.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate and test structured cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A)
  • Assist with fibre optic cable installation and splicing
  • Install network cabinets and containment systems (trunking, conduit etc.)
  • Use testing equipment such as Fluke certification testers where required
  • Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and follows health & safety requirements
  • Work with site supervisors and project managers to complete installations

Requirements

  • Some experience or relevant training in data cabling or network infrastructure
  • ECS or CSCS card
  • Willingness to complete a DBS check (paid and arranged by IKM)
  • Basic knowledge of structured cabling standards
  • Reliable, professional and able to work independently or within a team
  • Ability to lift and handle cabling materials and work in different site environments
  • Willingness to travel to different project locations when required

Desirable

  • Experience using Fluke testers (e.g. DSX-5000)
  • IPAF certification
  • Full driving licence
