Senior Backend Developer at Well Played Games, Leamington Spa, £Contractor Option

Contract Description

Well Played Games is a small studio based in Leamington Spa, UK with a strong track record of collaborating with world-class IP. Founded in 2017, our aim is to build live free-to-play video games across multiple platforms. We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join our team and take ownership of development across our live mobile titles.

The Role

As part of the project’s code team, you will be responsible for the support of the live game, the design and development of new features. You will take full ownership of the backend of a live product and work closely with the whole team to deliver new, major features safely.

You will be responsible for the design and development of services to support new game features. You will also be involved in and manage the rest of the team’s backend work by providing technical oversight, support and code reviews.

As a senior developer, you will be encouraged to contribute to the analysis and pragmatic selection of technologies and paradigms we use, and to the overall quality, reliability, scalability, and performance of our online services.

Your Skills and Experience

  • You will have 7+ years of relevant professional programming experience. You will have shipped multiple major features on a live product, and have an in-depth knowledge of the processes involved with safely releasing features on a live product.
  • You must have experience delivering backend services – through design, development, testing frameworks, simulations, deployment, release, and operation.
  • You must have a high level of skill in appropriate programming languages, ideally Go, Python, and Java Script.
  • You must have experience with managing a small team working on a live product.
  • Ideally, you will have experience working with cloud platforms, with a strong preference for familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS) & Kubernetes (EKS).
  • Experience with front-end technologies is desirable, particularly for the development of internal tools and applications.
  • You would ideally have experience with large databases – SQL.
  • You should have a keen eye for deconstructing problems, an architectural mindset, and be self-direted and outcome-focused.
  • You must have a strong interest in trends and developments in cloud technology.
  • You must have excellent communication skills, especially with regard to collaborative technical design, knowledge sharing, and driving high standards.
