Data Analyst at Network Rail, UK Office/Remote, 6 Months, £Contract Rate

About the Role

Network Rail is modernising its asset management capability and improving how engineers access and use operational data. This role is central to that work.

As a Data Analyst you will support the development, maintenance and improvement of key data systems, including both a new asset management platform and an older legacy database (VERA). You will work independently to ensure data is accurate, usable and structured in a way that supports asset engineers and business improvement initiatives.

This is a hands on technical role that requires strong SQL skills, experience with databases and a willingness to get stuck into complex, sometimes older systems.

As a Data Analyst your main responsibilities will be to:

• Maintain, update and support ongoing use of the legacy VERA Access database (older tech that still underpins key asset workflows).
• Work with the new asset management system to provide clear and reliable data for asset engineers.
• Use SQL to extract, clean and manipulate data across multiple systems.
• Manage and work with complex data management systems, ensuring quality, consistency and reliability of data sources.
• Support business improvement activities and help create periodic briefing packs for leadership panels.
• Liaise with stakeholders, internal and external to provide data insights and respond to analytical queries.
• Act as the primary technical data resource in the team and provide ad xe2 hoc analytical support as needed.

Essential: 

• 5+ years' experience as a Data Analyst in a data xe2 focused role.
• Strong experience working with SQL.
• Experience maintaining, managing or supporting databases.
• Understanding of Access databases, ideally including legacy systems such as VERA.
• Ability to work with complex data management systems and resolve data issues independently.
• Ability to work independently while supporting a wider engineering function.
• Recognised process improvement and good information management skills, including experience with Power BI and Excel.
• Ability to influence stakeholders and resolve issues.

Desirable:

• Familiarity with Network Rail or public sector data environments.
• Good knowledge of railway operational and contractual practices.
• Experience with asset management data, engineering data or operational data quality.
