Role Purpose

HMRC requires a hands‑on Integration (Solution) Architect to design, build, and evolve a modern, scalable Integration Platform that enables HMRC business use cases at pace and scale. The role is focused on practical architecture and delivery, ensuring that integration solutions are robust, reusable, and aligned with HMRC Enterprise Integration standards and open architecture principles

.This position provides thought leadership across iPaaS, Event Streaming, and API Management, while playing a critical role in translating integration strategy into successful, on‑the‑ground delivery through close engagement with engineering teams and suppliers.

 

Core Integration Capabilities

The Integration Architect will lead architecture and delivery across:

  • iPaaS (Integration Platform as a Service)

e.g. Boomi, MuleSoft or equivalent

  • Event Streaming Platforms

e.g. Confluent Kafka, MSK or equivalent

  • API Management

e.g. Kong, Apigee, APIDA or equivalent

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and evolve a modern, scalable iPaaS platform patterns that supports HMRC business and digital use cases.
  • Provide hands‑on guidance, coaching, and challenge to engineering teams and suppliers to ensure high‑quality delivery.
  • Proactively identify and shape the platform in collaboration with Business Analysts and Engineering teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement by promoting API‑led, event‑driven, and cloud‑native integration approaches.

 

Experience & Skills

  • 5+ years delivering enterprise‑scale integration or transformation programmes.
  • Strong hands‑on experience designing and delivering solutions using iPaaS, event streaming, and API management platforms.
  • Proven experience operating in Agile delivery environments.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with practical delivery leadership.
  • Recognised thought leader in modern integration practices, including event‑driven architectures, observability, DevSecOps, and full API lifecycle management.
  • Public or private sector experience welcomed
