Senior Technical Business Analyst at Modular Data, Remote, £Contract Rate (Outside IR35)

The Role

We are looking to engage a Senior Technical Business Analyst on a contract basis to support the delivery and live operation of a public sector data product.

You will work across business stakeholders, product, data engineering, and support teams to define requirements, map processes, and ensure the data product meets user and organisational needs. You will translate complex business problems into clear, actionable technical requirements and support delivery in an agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Elicit, analyse, and document business and technical requirements
• Translate user needs into detailed functional and non-functional specifications
• Work closely with data engineers and developers to refine backlog items
• Map current and future state processes
• Define data requirements, data flows, and integration points
• Support prioritisation and roadmap planning with the Product Manager
• Contribute to service assessments and ensure alignment with government standards
• Support live service through impact analysis, change management, and stakeholder engagement

Essential Skills & Experience

You must have demonstrable, hands-on experience of:

• Working as a Senior Business Analyst in a technical or data-focused environment
• Delivering digital or data products within UK government or public sector organisations
• Writing clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical documentation
• Working in agile, multidisciplinary teams
• Understanding data architecture concepts, APIs, integrations, and cloud-hosted platforms
• Managing stakeholders across technical and non-technical audiences

Additional Requirements

• Experience working on data platforms, analytics services, or reporting products
• Ability to work independently in a remote contract environment
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Familiarity with SQL and the ability to write SQL queries would be advantageous
