Java Developer - Icon Payment Framework at Layer7, Knutsford/Remote, 12 Months, £500 per day

Duration: 6 months (initial, with possible extension)
Clearance Requirement: BPSS required
Rate: £500 Inside IR35
Location: Hybrid - 2-3 days onsite in Knutsford

Key Responsibilities

Solution Development

• Design and develop payment processing solutions using Icon Payment Framework (IPF) and Java
• Customise and extend IPF modules to meet business and regulatory requirements
• Integrate Icon with upstream and downstream systems (core banking, fraud, AML, SWIFT, SEPA, FPS)

Technical Delivery

• Participate across the full SDLC: requirements, design, development, testing, deployment and support
• Produce clean, maintainable and well-documented code aligned to best practices
• Perform unit and integration testing; support UAT and production releases

Collaboration & Support

• Work closely with Business Analysts, Solution Architects, QA and DevOps teams
• Provide L3 production support for Icon and payment processing issues
• Participate in code reviews, technical workshops and design discussions

Compliance & Governance

• Ensure adherence to security, risk and regulatory frameworks (eg, PSD2, ISO 20022)
• Maintain technical documentation and contribute to team knowledge sharing

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years' Java development experience within financial services
• 2+ years' hands-on experience with Icon Payment Framework (IPF)
• Strong understanding of payment processing and clearing/settlement flows
• Experience with payment standards and schemes: SWIFT, ISO 20022, SEPA, CHAPS, FPS
• Strong experience with Spring Boot, REST APIs, JMS, SQL/Oracle
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, JIRA and Agile methodologies
• Proven problem-solving skills in fast-paced, regulated environments

Preferred/Desirable Skills

• Exposure to cloud-native development (AWS or Azure)
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and automated testing frameworks
• Background in transaction banking or corporate payments
