NHS Digital is a great place to work. What we do matters.

Our outstanding teams are passionate about technology and public service, making use of everyone’s skills to improve people’s lives.

We collaborate to deliver world class tech and intelligence, so come and join us. We are committed to sustainability, diversity and inclusion; our people are at the heart of what we do.

The skills and experience required of the Head of Product are:

•Defining and communicating outcomes to be met by a product portfolio area and its services and/or teams – whether these are user needs, technical requirements or business-related outcomes.

•Understanding product or service users - identifying who they are and what their needs are based on user research, feedback and other data sources.

•Delivering digital products or services using an agile mindset, agile frameworks and user-centred design methodologies (e.g. Scrum, Lean, Kanban etc.) to deliver desired outcomes successfully.

•Working with teams and stakeholders to define user stories with suitable acceptance criteria, key performance indicators (KPIs) and associated performance metrics and measures.

•Understanding how different stages of the product lifecycle affect a delivery team’s focus, composition and decision-making (e.g. differences between a service in discovery, beta and a mature, live product)

•Evaluating uncertainties or limitations in available information when making critical decisions about product direction, prioritising the most critical decisions and needs.

•Assessing potential and evidenced user needs alongside strategic objectives (e.g. from business plans and stakeholder engagement) and technical requirements (e.g. performance, integrity, monitorability, maintainability, security) – ensuring these evaluated holistically against clearly defined outcomes for a product, service or team.

•Determining relevant objectives, key results and performance indicators for a product or service to help delivery partners, stakeholders and management ensure the best strategic decisions are made.

  • The individual will possess strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, and due to the fast-paced nature of the programme, the individual must be flexible and highly adaptive digital product leader.
