Portfolio Analyst – (Inside IR35)

Contract Term: 3 Months possible extension

Contracting Authority: Companies House

Location: Remote Working

Focus primarily on providing insight, information and support that strengthens portfolio governance and helps to enable informed decision making . Analysis of a range of information sources and engagement with programme and project stakeholders. Provide informed insights using appropriate reporting and visualisation methods. The Portfolio Analyst will develop and maintain performance dashboards for portfolio delivery reporting. They will ensure clear understanding of the required dependencies and interlinkages across the Portfolio, and engage with colleagues to ensure clear understanding and one version of the truth. Maintaining the Portfolio Delivery schedule using Microsoft Project to monitor project progress alongside monitoring portfolio risks, threats and opportunities.

As a Portfolio Analystyour main responsibilities will be: 

Delivery and Leadership

  • Assist and support the Portfolio Manager and deputise when necessary
  • Champion the use of best practice project, programme and portfolio management standards and processes

Governance Reporting and Assurance

  • Analyses and challenges portfolio reporting data and escalates as required
  • Develop management information and performance dashboards (preferably Power BI)

Guidance and Support

  • Identify, develop and share best practice project management processes, tools and templates and benchmarks against industry standard
  • Provides guidance and training to the project delivery community and other stakeholders

Portfolio Performance and Controls

  • Developing and maintaining the Portfolio Delivery schedule using Microsoft Project.
  • Monitoring and controlling the baseline of key milestones
  • Escalation of milestone changes to the Portfolio Manager and Head of Portfolio Delivery
  • Project finance analysis and reporting.

Risk and Opportunity Management

  • Helps to maintain the Portfolio RAID log
  • Identify portfolio risks (threats and opportunities), raise and escalate as appropriate

Stakeholder engagement

  • Managing and engaging with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

 

Essential Skills

 

  • Extensive understanding of project management and delivery methodologies
  • Experience of working in a portfolio and programme environment
  • Data analysis
  • Experience building and maintaining interactive dashboards (preferably Power BI)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • An ability to prioritise work to meet targets and deadlines
  • The ability to work unsupervised and take initiative
  • Excellent ability with Microsoft applications, specifically Microsoft Excel, Power BI and Microsoft Project
  • Proven track record of delivery and working with stakeholders at all levels.

 

Technical skills:

  • Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) qualification or Management of Portfolios at Foundation or Practitioner level.
