Key Purpose
This role is a contract role for 6 months initially and will be classed as "inside IR35" for tax purposes.
As a member of the Ground Software Products Team you will be developing ground-based satellite mission software in areas such as Mission Planning, Mission Control, Image/data Processing, Spacecraft Simulators
Engineers at SSTL have involvement on a mission right from concept through to launch, commissioning and operational life; a true cradle to grave experience, and will give you the chance to see your work in Space in a rapid timescale! This key role will often sit within the core team of a satellite mission interacting with other technical leads across multiple disciplines to generate the technical solutions for innovative projects.
Key Tasks
As a successful candidate you’ll work alongside the System Engineer and other team members in order to deliver the required ground software for a mission. This involves the full software development lifecycle in an agile environment:
- Requirements capture
- Architecture and design
- Implementation
- Unit, integration and system testing
- Bug tracking and version control
- Peer reviews (including code reviews)
- User documentation
- Liaising with customers, including formal customer-facing presentations and customer training
- Support for satellite commissioning and in-orbit operations
Skills & Experience
Proven experience of developing Java based software running under MS windows
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills, able to influence, persuade and negotiate with people at all levels (externally & internally) as well as to assist in reaching compromises when there are conflicting requirements
- High degree of organisation, self-motivation and initiative
- Good team working skills, together with the ability to interface with others at all levels
- Good presentation skills and customer facing skills
