The Role:  

We are looking for experienced Solution architects to work on a critical project involving immigration systems with one of our major government clients. 

The successful candidates will work closely with the wider business’ strategy, business design and architecture leads. You will interpret, translate, impact assess and feedback on

strategic initiatives from a cross cutting business architecture perspective to ensure business requirements addressed by the portfolio are optimally rationalised to deliver strategic business outcomes. You will work closely with business analysts and technical leads throughout the change lifecycle, using business architecture to inform, shape and optimise portfolio delivery to achieve strategic business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and maintaining effective ongoing relationships with other Business Architects and design professionals across both the Portfolio and Immigration business domains to provide a conduit for ensuring strategic awareness and design alignment across the Portfolio.
  • Supporting the development of a centralised business architecture knowledgebase across the Immigration business domains to help ensure definition of coherent, strategically aligned and prioritised business requirements for delivery on the Portfolio. This will involve contributing to the development and maintenance of core business architecture collateral e.g. Capability Map, Value Streams, Information Model and Organisation Model.
  • Collaborating closely with Technical/ Solution/ Application/ Data Architect colleagues to ensure these technical domains remain aligned and informed by mature and current business architecture. Mapping capabilities to the Application Architecture, Information Model to the Data Architecture etc. Working to identify and highlight re-use and other rationalisation opportunities across the portfolio, working to exploit these as early as possible in the lifecycle.
  • Using business architecture such as Capabilities and Value Streams etc. to support Portfolio Business Analysts and Planning Teams to help shape and prioritise delivery activities for individual projects and programmes. Leading on development of design artefacts that effectively use business architecture collateral to translate strategic level business design to initiative level solution design.
  • Providing strategic design assurance for individual initiatives, escalating and presenting options and designs to Business Design Authorities and other relevant governance boards where necessary

Key Skills/Experience:

  • Strong experience working in solution architecture gained within a large distributed systems environment
  • Working knowledge and/or general understanding of technology methodologies such as ITILv3 and TOGAF
  • In depth knowledge of SOA and service-oriented architecture design techniques
  • Knowledge of one of the leading ESB technologies e.g. WebSphere, SWAG, Tibco, Oracle, webMethods etc.
  • Experience of Middleware and Middleware technologies
  • Broad knowledge of technology solutions, current trends and techniques
  • Sound knowledge of architectural design including knowledge of services-based approaches to solution design
  • Experience of COTS package implementations including large packages and custom solution design
  • Proven ability in one or more of the following:
    • Work Order Management
    • Business Intelligence/Reporting
    • Mobile Technology
    • Asset Management
  • Strong sense of ownership, initiative and the ability to drive results.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Project management experience is desired.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that has competing and alternating priorities with a focus on delivery of final solutions on time and within budget.
  • Ability to absorb new technology in short time frames.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Make recommendations regarding scope, timeline or budget for projects.
  • Drive the creation and adoption of reusable technology assets to improve efficiency
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • An understanding of current business trends and potential technical ramifications of changing business environments on current and future technology solutions
  • Understanding of IT operational activities including support and implementation
  • Adhere to, develop and monitor change management procedures
  • The ability to facilitate, analyse and document requirements
  • Capable of portfolio / programme management as required
  • Financial and budgetary understanding including business case preparation and presentation
  • Applying the BIZBOK standards of business architecture within a large organisation.
  • Applying appropriate strategic level thinking to complex detail to maximise holistic benefits for the business and customer.
  • Working on, or with, large scale programmes delivering high level strategic requirements.
  • Development and use of key business architectural collateral such as Value Streams or Capabilities to shape strategic business change.
  • Holding a Certified Business Architect qualification by the Business Architecture Guild would be desirable, but not essential.
