Business Analyst - Mobile Apps (3 month contract, Remote)

Overview of the team

Zego presents an interesting challenge to a Product team, encompassing consumer-facing technical product development in the form of websites and apps, all the way through to unlocking innovation in actuarial science by developing pricing engines and novel data integrations. All of this against the backdrop of a regulated industry, dominated by incumbents and ripe for technology-led disruption.

You will be joining the Mobile Apps team, who are responsible for developing our two mobile applications for our B2C users. The team is made up of four technical squads, each of whom contribute to the development of our apps across Android, iOS and backend platforms.

 

Role overview

As a business analyst within the mobile apps team, you will help us to determine howthe problems with our product will get resolved from a functional user perspective. You will evaluate what the internal business challenges will be, what the technical restraints are, the known risks and which action items could lead to solutions. In other words, you will be tasked with helping draw out the technical options we have available and ensuring any requirements defined by the Product Manager are hit.

 

About the role

  • You will perform requirements engineering to elicit stakeholder needs and desires, and develop them into an agreed-upon set of detailed requirements that can serve as a basis for all subsequent development activities.
  • You will work closely with Product Managers to discuss high-level requirements to help tighten up the ‘why’ of any stories, and ensure any solution is fit for purpose.
  • You will collaborate with strong engineering teams, and attend refinement sessions, three amigo sessions and lead user story mapping to help the team understand ‘how’ they might deliver the ‘what’.
  • You will support the mobile app roadmap by performing process mapping and analysis of the expected as-is and to-be to understand if there are any gaps, and help to pull together cost-benefit analysis where needed.
  • You will contribute to our Definition of Ready and INVEST criteria, spending time with our backlog to ensure every ticket is aligned to these before being moved into ‘Ready’ Status.
  • You will develop a strategy around non-functional requirements which can be used across the business, providing both an understanding of what needs to be captured within development, as well as how performance against these requirements will be measures

About you

  • You have a background as a Business Analyst, having worked with multiple cross-functional agile squads for approximately 5+ years
  • You have experience working closely with Product Managers to elicit requirements that support the product roadmap
  • You are technically savvy, and you are able to quickly understand and digest new technologies, teams and industries, and use this knowledge to drive high performance within your team. You can answer low-level technical questions with ease
  • Ideally, you have worked on native mobile apps in the past, and have experience with writing requirements for Android, iOS and backend teams
  • You can communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members, through both written and verbal communication
  • You are well organised, and value the creation and maintenance of high quality documentation
  • You demonstrate value through building data-driven products, and ideally will have a good domain knowledge or experience of working with telematics or other similar behavioural data sources
