As a Lead Digital Tools Specialist your main responsibilities would be: 

  • You will lead the Digital Tools team, fostering a culture of innovation within the team and inspiring and motivating the team to continually improve its service delivery.
  • You will make clear, logical and sustainable plans for the teams ' service delivery using appropriate programme and project management methods.
  • You will encourage team members to suggest and implement performance improvements so that the team is constantly learning and improving.
  • You will effectively plan, organise and manage the teams ' time and activities in order to deliver a high quality, secure, reliable and efficient service.
  • You will make senior management aware of staff resourcing issues as soon as it becomes clear that there are risks of the service suffering.
  • You ensure that the team is delivering best value for money evaluating incoming user requests on a cost/benefit basis.
  • In the spirit of Agile, you will ensure that prior experience and feedback from customers and stakeholders is used by the team in order to make pragmatic, sensible and logical future implementation decisions and build a high quality, secure, reliable and efficient service.
  • You will give a clear sense of direction for the team, regularly clarifying future for improvements or changes to implementation methods. You will stand by decisions that the team have made, defending them when necessary with previously documented evidence.
  • Having built a culture of innovation, you will not allow bureaucracy to stifle the creativity and innovation within the team; you will be prepared to challenge decisions which you believe detrimentally affect the teams delivery, escalating if necessary.
  • You will be a clear, concise and confident communicator as well as a great listener that is able to facilitate solution development meetings in person or on Skype.
  • You will be passionate about the service that you and the team provide and take pride in everything they do.
  • You will hold them to the same standards that you expect of yourself and encourage them to communicate with clarity, enthusiasm and honesty.
  • You will have a genuine interest in colleagues and stakeholders and take pride in the solutions you put in place for them.

You’ll have relevant experience in:


  • Experience providing training or mentoring other team members.
  • Comprehensive theoretical and practical experience creating, configuring, maintaining and administering JIRA and JIRA Service Desk projects and Confluence spaces
  • Highly confident and experienced with Groovy scripting, programming and the Jira API.
  • Extensive practical experience creating, configuring and maintaining EazyBI accounts, including configuration of reports and dashboards for end users
  • Extensive practical experience acting in a business analysis capacity. Ability to work closely with end users to understand and translate user needs into team actions
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of test management and continuous integration plugins within JIRA, such as Zephyr, Jenkins and Bitbucket pipelines
  • Extensive practical experience implementing advanced JIRA concepts for end users (configuring workflows using post-functions, triggers, validators, automations)
  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject such as computer science with core development element or equivalent level qualification or experience of working at a similar level in specialist area
  • Highly skilled problem-solver with a consistent and logical approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Able to communicate with clarity, enthusiasm and honesty, whilst being persuasive.
  • Extensive experience working and communicating with a range of stakeholders up to and including Executive Director level. Possess the ability to modify the communication approach to the audience concerned
  • Public sector experience would be an advantage
