Solution Architect - Inside IR35

Contract Term: 6 months

Location: Working Remotely

The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) plays a vital role in the UK’s maritime Defence capability and supporting safe navigation at sea.  As an agency of the MOD and a world-leading supplier of navigational Charts and Publications, we are at the forefront of hydrographic digital product development and services to the worldwide maritime community.

The UKHO are recruiting a Solution Architect on a 6 months interim basis. This role falls inside IR35.

As a Solution Architect, your main responsibilities would be: 

  • Identify and recommend IT options and solutions to meet business needs and opportunities in a manner which seeks to optimise the balance between costs, risks, benefits and strategic fit.
  • Deliver key architectural artefacts, including Solution Passports, Solution Outlines and Solution Designs, working within the UKHO architectural framework, using iterative, agile and lean approaches.
  • Ensure adherence to architectural governance and the compliance of enterprise solution designs to agreed architectural principles and standards.
  • Coordinate and guide solution development and implementation activities with Agile Delivery teams to ensure architectural alignment and conformity in an iterative manner.
  • Collaborate with and represent other Solution Architects, Enterprise Architects and other technical staff working at the UKHO.



You’ll have relevant experience in:

  • Expert level of solution architecture experience, including the creation and maintenance of solution artefacts to required standards.
  • Solid experience of the development, adoption and evolution of solutions using event driven architectures, API management and web services, working with and within Scrum based Agile teams and with strong experience of iterative approaches.
  • Good experience of the adoption, application, and oversight of architectural governance, ensuring that optimal approaches are used.
  • Clear communication of complex technical concepts to senior and non-technical staff.


You will also have these Qualifications/Skills:

  • Public sector background would be advantageous
  • Experience of the Sparx EA modelling tool
