Solution Architects are responsible for supporting a team, blending leadership, architecture and development skills. Solution Architects are responsible for bringing a breadth of understanding across a range of technical domains and a depth of knowledge and/or experience in at least one, but ideally many. They are responsible for blending a variety of different competency areas - strong developmental and architectural skills are as vital as leadership or communication skills.

As Solutions Architect you will: 

  • Lead, deliver and support technical design of a product or part of a shared platform to meet user needs and business objectives.
  • Lead on ensuring high quality of technical design, and adherence to enterprise architecture principles and roadmaps
  • Build relationships and work collaboratively with Digital professions in agile delivery teams to create VFM solution designs that meet user needs
  • Support development of the DWP Architecture practice by sharing best practice and reference architectures to ensure consistency and coherence of DWP architecture design across DWP.
  • Engage with Enterprise Architects, Domain Architects, Lead Solution Architects and engineering teams to implement the solutions according to agreed and approved architecture designs.
  • Deliver product solutions and be accountable for product architecture in alignment with engineering.
  • Identify, capture, share and iterate architecture patterns to ensure consistent and coherent architecture design, contributing to the Enterprise Architecture.
  • Implement architecture patterns creating reference architectures as real-world working examples of successful architecture design.
  • Create solution options and recommendations - during project discovery and inception phases to drive decision making on best solution design.
  • Make technology choices for products in conjunction with the enterprise architecture blueprint, contributing to the update of technology policies where appropriate.
  • Contribute to building an inclusive digital culture within the department.
  • Manage junior members of the team and support hiring activities for the Architecture practice

 

You’ll be/ have:

  • Able to listen to the needs of the technical and business stakeholders and interpret between them. Capable of proactive and reactive communication.
  • A deep understanding of the technical concepts required in their role and understands how these fit into the wider technical landscape. Understands the limitations of digital technology.
  • Experience working with and challenges senior stakeholders. Can prioritise and mitigate constraints, and can turn them into an advantage. Is able to adapt the approach depending on the constraints.
  • Experience designing technical solutions by dealing with problems that span different business areas. Works across multiple services or a single large or complicated service. Draws links between problems in order to reach common solutions.
  • High and low level design & build skills in AWS cloud and Azure Cloud, in particular experience architecting/operating solutions build on AWS
  • Knowledge of multiple programming languages such as NodeJS, .NET, Java, PHP, etc.
  • Working knowledge of mobile technologies (iOS/Android/Xamarin)
  • Devops tools/techniques and design (Jenkins, GIT, cloud based DevOps technologies)
  • Microservices design, common cloud based API management techniques
  • Experience migrating or transforming legacy customer solutions to the cloud
  • Strong understanding across Cloud and infrastructure components (server, storage, network, data, and applications) to deliver end to end Cloud Infrastructure architectures and designs.
  • Environment configuration approaches
  • Security design and best practice
  • Big Data Modelling design and implementation
  • Defining service level agreements (SLA’s) in the cloud
  • Microservices design, common cloud based API management techniques
  • Demonstrable credibility with enterprise sized clients
  • Ability to plan design and architectural blueprints
  • Capability to size and cost designs

It would also be good if you had:

  • Public sector experience OR experience in a large scale private sector organisation
