Contract Description

The role

HMRC is in the process of delivering value to taxpayers through the transition of production support from an external provider to in-house. To achieve this, two contractors are needed to work alongside the incumbent managed service and assist in the full handover of the complete service into HMRC’s remit.

The roles shall provide production support to services and applications, working closely with, and being the point of contact for platforms teams, service management, other HMRC entities and 3rd party service providers.

 

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Detailed analysis and handover of managed service providers’ processes, technologies, run-books and documentation
  • Incident & problem resolution, 1st / 2nd line technical support, change Management
  • Assisting with development of a modern automated integration platform and defining best practice and standards
  • Asset and Configuration Management
  • Assist with building a culture of continuous delivery and improvement, ensuring that key services and processes are regularly analysed, maintained and improved
  • Building up a useful, robust automated test suite to support a Continuous Deployment environment
  • Ensure that new and updated platforms, products and transactions are thoroughly tested for performance, are able to handle specified load, and can be maintained over the long-term
  • Supporting development teams with configuring applications for deployment
  • Availability Management – Responsible for analysing, planning, measuring and improving all aspects of availability of services within remit.
  • Capacity Management, working in conjunction with platform teams
  • Input into Release process and assist with implementation where necessary
  • Perform platform level operations (starting/stopping services, load balancer re-routing)

 

Requirements

In addition to excellent interpersonal skills with a positive ‘can do’ attitude the successful candidate will have proven experience in the following:

  • Application Integration Support experience
  • Understanding of APIs
  • Technical/admin skills with some / all of:
  1. oWS02
  2. oRabbit MQ
  3. oJob Scheduler (SOS Berlin)
  4. oELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana)
  • Understanding of on-prem IT Infrastructure
  • Knowledge of cloud concepts and environments
  • ITIL background and understanding
  • Excellent communication both oral and written
  • Proven troubleshooting skills
