We are looking for a Technical Business Analyst to undertake a contract role with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, to be based remotely/in the Swindon area. 


As Technical Business Analyst you will:

  • Quickly understand business issues and data challenges to get to the root cause of business problems
  • Elicit business requirements using a variety of techniques as appropriate (user stories, interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysis)
  • Capture and manage requirements
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding
  • Drive and challenge stakeholders on their assumptions on what is required and distinguish between multiple, varying user requests and distil into business requirements
  • Contribute to the production of business cases
  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with stakeholders to analyse information needs and functional requirements in order to deliver the required products (e.g. Feasibility Studies, Gap Analyses, BRDs, Business Cases and Initial Risk Assessments etc.)
  • Develop, communicate and apply appropriate project/product/analysis standards
  • Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts within the ‘customer community’ to establish the technical vision and analyses trade-offs between usability and performance needs
  • Translate user stories & business needs into technical specification documents for the Data Modelers.



You’ll have:

  • The ability to think strategically and see the bigger picture whilst having the ability to grasp the detail
  • An understanding of project progression across the full project lifecycle, both “traditional” and agile
  • Strong analytical and product/deliverable management skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into system and operational requirements
  • Experience of systems design, User Acceptance Testing and systems implementation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers and subject matter experts
  • A demonstrable ability to influence and persuade others, to work collaboratively with people of all levels and to build good relations with them
  • The ability to communicate at all levels and communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully
  • Workshop facilitation skills
  • The ability to work in a complex, changing and ambiguous environment
