About This Opportunity

The role is a 2nd line Technical Specialist within the Infrastructure & Operations team, providing technical expertise and operational support across a wide range of IT platforms and services, supporting the aims and objectives of the overall Technology function. The role is a 6 month contract and will contribute to the security, availability, integrity and day-to-day support of core IT services, including an on-premise VMware hosting platform, Wintel client/server estate and Azure IaaS, PaaS and SaaS public cloud deployment. This is an opportunity to build on your strong base of operational support experience and gain experience in new technical areas while working alongside a group of skilled and committed colleagues.

Responsibilities Include

Work within a team of 2nd line support specialists to provide operational support and maintenance for 800+ Windows servers and 2,000 Windows clients across a range of production and test environments, supporting business-critical infrastructure and application services

Provide excellent technical support cover each weekday (07:30 to 18:00) and efficient resolution of incidents and problems via defined ITSM processes and procedures, minimising impact to internal and external business users

Optimise, monitor, maintain and improve all infrastructure services, providing an efficient, reliable and secure infrastructure that follows industry best practice

Contribute to the delivery of business projects involving new or updated infrastructure services, including working with both on-premise and cloud-based systems

Assist with occasional/regular operational activities (e.g. 1st line service desk support coverage, disaster recovery tests, on-call support and out of hours working, as required)


General administration, maintenance and troubleshooting of Windows Server/Client platforms

Support And Development Of Core Infrastructure Services, Including

Windows Server 2012/16/19

Windows 10

Virtualisation technologies (VMware)

SAN and file storage technologies

Active Directory

Backup and Recovery tools (e.g. eVault, Azure Backup, Recovery Manager for AD)

Software asset management tools (e.g. SCCM, Group Policy, Solarwinds Patchmanager, WSUS, Autopilot, Intune)

Automation tools (e.g. Powershell)

Monitoring tools (e.g. Solarwinds)

Security tools (McAfee AV/ePO, Windows Defender, InsighVM)

3+ years specialising in Windows server/client operational support, including administration of on-premise and cloud IaaS/PaaS/SaaS platforms (particularly Microsoft Azure)

Experience of vulnerability management processes and software update deployment via SCCM

Experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams

Understanding of creation, modification and maintenance of scripts using popular scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell)

Understanding of security principles and how they are applied in the world of operational infrastructure management

Financial Applications (not essential but preferable): Fidessa Workstation and Trader, Reuters, Bloomberg, BONY, Crest, Euroclear.


Good troubleshooting & diagnostic skills, including the ability to work well under pressure and follow investigations through to logical conclusions

Good organisational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with other teams in order to understand technical requirements and provide guidance in relation to IT services

Commitment to quality, accuracy, and reliability of services provided

Ability to produce and maintain high-quality documentation and a readiness to share knowledge and encourage the growth of technical abilities in themselves and others

Self-starter who is well organised and can take responsibility for resolution of issues that may not necessarily sit within their direct sphere of control, focusing on the experience of the requester/customer

Desire to make things better and look for opportunities to improve our services and processes
