Contract Description

iSYSTEMS currently require a Linux Systems Engineer to provide Systems / Platform Backend support and Infrastructure Management for a short term engagement. This is based in London but remote / homeworking is available. The ideal candidate must be a good communicator with a proven ability to multi-task, manage and prioritise several projects to meet deadlines, and be able to work on their own initiative with strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Role & Responsibilities

Technical Skills

  • Installing and configuring computer hardware, CentOS, Linux, Unix operating systems and applications as well as Windows basic systems
  • Familiarity with fundamentals of Linux scripting languages (cronjobs, automating scripts etc)
  • Experience installing, configuring and maintaining services such as Apache, MySQL, Nging, Cygwin, Bind
  • Strong Hyper-V and Virtualisation knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of large-scale storage backup, disaster recovery, business resumption and load-balancing technology implementations
  • Familiarity with data storage technologies (e.g. NAS, SAN, QNAP, Clustered, Tape)
  • Knowledge of local and networked file systems (e.g. NFS, DFS, NTFS, DNS)
  • Familiarity with systems tools and protocols (e.g. SNMP, Managed Engine, Nagios ZABBIX etc.)
  • Familiarity with security protocols and practices
  • Exposure working with Heterogeneous database technologies
  • Knowledge, and experience, supporting client-facing SLA's and tiered support methodologies (ITIL standards preferred)

Desirable Skills

  • Certifications in any Linux+ CompTIA, RHCE, GCUX, ORACLE LINUX OCA &OCP, LPI along with any additional IT accreditations
  • Experience in supporting trading Applications and Platforms
  • NUTANIX virtual environment knowledge
  • Exposure in Windows Servers, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Backups and Storage, Virtualisation, CLOUD.
  • Exposure in data networking, network administration, troubleshooting and overall operations support.
  • Previous experience with supporting Low Latency high frequency environments infrastructure

Key Experience and Competencies

  • Experience in handling IT Infrastructure including support, system installation and design
  • Install, configure, and maintain server and desktops and associated servers, and other related equipment, devices, and systems, including patches and fixes for applications and operating systems
  • Overall Knowledge of Systems hardware (e.g., firewalls, routers, switches, uninterruptible power supplies, miscellaneous servers, and disk and tape libraries)
  • Specific knowledge of operating system administration (Windows, Linux etc.) with the ability to configure any system from scratch
  • Troubleshooting system/network problems, diagnosing and solving hardware/software faults acting as a level 2 and level 3 engineer
  • Ability to work in datacenter environments
  • Skills to accept and adapt to different challenges and requirements of the work and contribute in an innovative manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure and under the direction of multiple clients
