Job Overview
The Business Analyst will play a pivotal role in the discovery, analysis, and design phases of a project aimed at reducing the nursing documentation burden. In order to be successful for this role you will need a solid understainding of patient flows, particularly the interaction with nursing work workflows. Ideally you will have worked as a design or change analyst for an Acute trust implementing a New Electronic Patient Record (eg Oracle Health/ Cerner, Epic, Lorenzo or Nervecentre). You will conduct detailed research, map current documentation processes, identify opportunities for standardisation, and support the development of electronic prototypes. The goal is to create person-centred, evidence-based documentation and processes that aligns with national guidelines and enhances clinical workflow efficiency.
Duties
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and understand business needs.
- Facilitate focus groups/interviews with clinical and administrative staff to capture pain points and workflow challenges.
- Conduct comprehensive analysis of existing workstream documentation (paper and digital) across Trusts, including assessments.
- Identify commonalities, redundancies, and gaps in documentation against regulatory frameworks (e.g., CQC, NMC, NICE).
- Conduct thorough data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform decision-making.
- Develop and maintain reports using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and VBA to visualise data effectively.
- Assist in project management activities, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.
- Document findings in clear, actionable reports (e.g., ̎As-Is̎ inventories, gap analysis).
- Validate potential system improvements based on analytical findings and industry best practices.
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience as a Business Systems Analyst or similar role in healthcare/NHS settings, preferably with nursing documentation or digital transformation projects.
- Proven ability to map complex processes, analyse regulatory compliance, and propose standardised solutions.
- Proficiency in process modelling tools (e.g., Visio, Lucidchart) and data analysis.
- Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with technical teams and Clinical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable Criteria
- Familiarity with EHR/ EPR systems is essential
- Experience in prototyping or user-testing digital forms.
