Job Overview
We are seeking a Clinical System Analyst to lead the design, integration, and optimisation of a project aimed at reducing the nursing documentation burden across 6 Trusts . The consultant will conduct detailed research, map current documentation processes, identify opportunities for standardisation, and support the development of electronic prototypes. The goal is to create person-centred, evidence-based documentation and processes that align with national guidelines and enhance clinical workflow efficiency. The ideal candidate blends deep technical knowledge with a strong understanding of clinical workflows, healthcare standards, and data governance.
Duties
- Architect and design robust, scalable, and compliant nursing clinical documentation system solutions across inpatient, outpatient, and specialty care environments.
- Serve as a liaison between clinical stakeholders and IT teams to translate clinical needs into functional and technical system designs.
- Lead the implementation and optimisation of EHR/EMR systems (e.g., Nervecentre) and clinical decision support tools.
- Lead the building and configuration of nursing documentation in the electronic health record systems.
- Ability to present complex EHR system configurations to groups of clinical stakeholders.
- Consider interoperability through HL7, FHIR, and other healthcare data exchange protocols in the design process.
- Evaluate current systems for gaps, scalability, security, and performance opportunities.
- Support regulatory compliance (CQC, NICE, etc.) in system design and operations.
- Document architectural decisions, workflows, data flows, and technical specifications.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in healthcare IT, including 3+ years in a system or solutions architecture or equivalent role.
- Deep knowledge of clinical applications and EHR/EMR platforms (Epic, NerveCentre, Cerner, etc.).
- Strong understanding of clinical workflows and healthcare operational models.
- Experience with data exchange standards (HL7 v2/v3, FHIR, CCD, X12) and clinical terminologies (SNOMED, LOINC, ICD-10).
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to clinical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable Criteria
- Certification in relevant EHR platforms (e.g., Epic Certified, Cerner Millennium).
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and DevOps in a healthcare setting.
