Role Overview:
Valcon is seeking a Data Governance Lead to join our consulting practice, specializing in the energy and utilities sector. As a Data Governance Lead, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of data governance frameworks, policies, and best practices for our clients. You will collaborate with senior stakeholders, including business and IT teams, to ensure the integrity, quality, security, and accessibility of critical business data across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive data governance frameworks and policies for energy and utilities clients.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data ownership, stewardship, and accountability processes.
- Ensure data quality standards are established and maintained across all relevant business units, ensuring regulatory compliance (eg, GDPR, CCPA, industry-specific regulations).
- Develop and enforce data management standards to ensure that data is accurate, accessible, secure, and in alignment with industry best practices.
- Facilitate data governance and stewardship training programs for internal and client teams to ensure adoption and understanding of data governance policies.
- Define and implement data classification, data privacy, and data security policies specific to energy and utilities data needs.
- Manage data governance tools and platforms, ensuring proper implementation and utilization to support data management goals.
- Work closely with stakeholders to assess data maturity levels and identify opportunities for improvement in data governance practices.
- Provide expert advice and strategic direction to clients on emerging trends and technologies in data governance within the energy and utilities space.
- Lead the preparation and delivery of executive-level presentations, workshops, and reports on data governance strategy and performance.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field. Relevant certifications (eg, DAMA, CDMP) are a plus.
- At least 7-10 years of experience in data governance, data management, or related fields, with a strong focus on the energy or utilities sectors.
- Proven experience in leading data governance initiatives and developing data governance frameworks, policies, and strategies.
- Strong understanding of industry-specific regulations and compliance standards, particularly within energy, utilities, and related sectors.
- Experience in working with data governance tools and platforms such as Collibra, Alation, Informatica, or similar tools.
- Expertise in data quality, data security, and data privacy management, with a demonstrated ability to create and enforce policies that meet organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams and executive stakeholders.
- Ability to analyze complex data challenges and provide strategic solutions that drive organizational success.
- Experience with data modelling, metadata management, and data lineage in the context of energy and utilities is highly desirable
