Experienced Programmer at Well Played Games, Royal Leamington Spa, £Contract Rate

Well Played Games is a small but experienced games development company based in Leamington Spa, UK. Founded in 2017, our aim is to build live free-to-play video games across multiple platforms. We are looking for an Experienced Programmer to join our development team.

The Role

As part of a project’s code team, you will be responsible for the support of our live games and the design and development of new game features. You will work closely with the whole team, especially art and design.

You will be given a chance to learn and utilise a variety of programming languages and technologies on all aspects of developing and supporting our games. You will be expected to develop and maintain both the client and server sides of our games, work with platform-specific features, and contribute to tools, simulations, testing frameworks, and other supporting technologies.

As an experienced programmer, you will have already worked within a team and seen a whole development cycle, or supported a live game. You will show a willingness to learn and support the wider development team when tackling complex technical tasks, driving efficiency, collaboration and quality, both in and beyond your discipline.

Your Skills and Experience

• You must have multiple years experience working with C#, and ideally some experience with other relevant languages (e.g. C++, Java, Objective-C, Go, NodeJS).
• You must have a proactive and positive attitude to collaboration and learning, and a keen interest in trends in games and technology.
• You will have been through the entire lifecycle of game development and been involved in shipping a game.
• You should be able to demonstrate a talent and enthusiasm for making high quality games.
• You will ideally have experience developing for mobile devices/OSs (especially iOS and Android).
• You will ideally have experience working with server/web development or cloud platforms such as PlayFab, Firebase, GameSparks or Heroic Labs.
• You will ideally have experience working with and maintaining API and backend services.
• You will ideally have an understanding of the challenges associated with maintaining live service products, practical experience of working with and overcoming these difficulties is very desirable.
