An IT Support Engineer is responsible for providing technical support and troubleshooting for an organization’s computer systems, networks, and software applications. Responsibilities:
- Technical Support:
- Provide first-line support to end-users for software, hardware, and network issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems via phone, email, or remote desktop support.
- Diagnose and fix network, hardware, and software-related issues.
- System Maintenance:
- Install, configure, and maintain software applications, hardware, and networks.
- Perform regular system updates and patches to ensure security and performance.
- Ensure that systems are backed up regularly and restore systems from backups when required.
- Hardware and Software Installation:
- Set up and install new hardware, such as desktops, laptops, printers, and other peripherals.
- Install and configure software applications for users based on their requirements.
- Network and Server Management:
- Monitor network performance and ensure reliable communication.
- Assist with network configuration, including LAN, WAN, and VPN setups.
- Monitor and maintain servers to ensure optimal performance.
- User Account Management:
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access control in line with company policies.
- Assist users with password resets, access requests, and permission management.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of all technical issues, resolutions, and support activities.
- Document standard operating procedures and best practices for IT support.
- Training and Support:
- Provide technical training and guidance to end-users on software tools and best practices.
- Assist with onboarding of new employees by providing necessary IT resources.
- Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution:
- Identify recurring technical issues and work with the IT team to implement permanent fixes.
- Actively monitor and manage IT systems to detect and resolve problems proactively.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an IT support engineer or in a related role.
- Strong knowledge of IT systems, networks, and hardware.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
- Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS) and networking concepts.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Professional, Cisco CCNA) are a plus.
