Senior Data Modeller - 6 month initial contract via Umbrella Company

Edinburgh, Glasgow or Alderley Edge (hybrid with 2 days a week in office)

Newtyne is supporting our financial services client in their Group Data Office (GDO) which is at the forefront of enhancing data use across the organisation. We are supporting various initiatives and are currently recruiting for a talented and experienced Data Modeller with expertise in data warehouse design to a dedicated data modelling team. This is a pivotal role and will involve designing data structures for their cutting-edge Data Lakehouse built on Azure Databricks. This is an opportunity to be at the heart of shaping a strategic data platform, leveraging your extensive data modelling and design skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a senior member of the Data Modelling team, providing guidance and oversight to less experienced colleagues
  • Apply extensive knowledge of data modelling at all levels-conceptual, logical, and physical within an Agile development environment
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing competing priorities effectively
  • Chair data model design review sessions and ensure compliance with data modelling standards
  • Present data modelling and design topics to the Data Design Authority and other design bodies as needed
  • Define data mapping and transformation from source to target entities, collaborating closely with data engineers, system SMEs, and technical BAs

About You:

  • Expertise: Proven experience in data modelling (conceptual, logical, physical) and various data design approaches (relational, dimensional, data-vault, and de-normalised big table)
  • Track Record: Demonstrable success in data modelling for complex, multi-vendor programmes
  • Pragmatic: Focused on delivering business value, balancing design purity with value delivery
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to explain complex data concepts to both technical teams and senior non-technical stakeholders
  • Collaboration: Ability to work closely with third-party authorities and suppliers, understanding regulations and legislation within the financial services market
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in data modelling tools (eg, Idera ER/Studio, Erwin) and ETL/Data pipeline tools (eg, Azure Data Factory, Qlik).
  • Expert-level SQL skills are essential; Exposure to Azure Databricks and Databricks Notebooks is a plus
