Senior Data Engineer at Billigence, London Area, £Contract Rate

About the job:

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer who can conceptualize and design data foundations and end-to-end solutions, including data platforms, to maximize value from data. This role is pivotal in fostering data-driven thinking within the organization, extending beyond IT teams to the broader business stakeholder community. You will bring a wealth of experience in data engineering and be expected to serve as a subject matter expert and an active thought partner in shaping the organization's data strategy. You will play a key role in defining the vision and strategy for robust, future-ready IT solutions.

You will be an asset to our team, bringing deep technical skills and capabilities to projects that define our data journey. You should be eager to engage, network, and innovate in collaboration with teams across the company. This role emphasizes continuous learning of new technologies to ensure you remain future-ready.

This is an initial 6-month engagement, where you will be required on client site twice a week in London.

What you will be doing:

• Hands-on technical delivery leader
• Visible community leader for data engineers
• Conducts quality, community & conference presentations/trainings
• Someone with vast array of technology skills with deep expertise in at least 2 core technologies (Azure, AWS, SAP), shown to up-skill fast, and shown a passion for the industry
• Able to drive change and improvement through a deep understanding of the inter relationship between People, Process, Data and Technology
• Conceptualizes and designs Data Foundation initiatives in support of the key business programmers.
• Ensure traceability of requirements from Data needs and requirements, through testing and scope changes, to training and transition.
• Drive implementation efficiency and effectiveness across the pilots and future projects to minimize cost, increase speed of implementation and maximize value delivery.

What You Will Need:

• Gas/Power Trading knowledge - Short-term trading, physical assets trading (CCGT, Wind, Solar, Battery)
• Expertise in prototyping, solution design, and delivering end-to-end projects.
• Ability to work on and demonstrate POCs involving new technologies.
• Champion in working with OLTP/OLAP databases, highly experienced in building and optimizing complex queries, data manipulation, processing, and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets.
• Hands-on experience in conceptualizing, designing, and delivering end-to-end data solutions using the aforementioned technologies.
• Experience working with NoSQL databases, big data sets, and big data technologies.
• Hands-on experience in designing data foundation initiatives such as data modeling, data quality, data governance, data maturity assessments, and data strategy to support key business stakeholders.
• Proven experience in working with source control technologies such as GITHUB and Azure DevOps.

Nice to have Skills:

• Risk - Modelling & understanding of risk & risk management
• Quantitative Skills - Statistical methods to check and investigate numerical data for practical insights
• Commodity Modelling - Energy (power, gas, environmental products) and meteorology
• Experience in project management, running a scrum team
• Experience working with BPC, Planning
• Exposure to working with external technical ecosystem
• Managing small teams
