Job Title: Storage and Backup Engineer (SC Cleared)

Location: Barrow-in-Furness (Onsite)

Duration: 6 Months

Contract Type: PAYE through Umbrella

Clearance: Must hold SC clearance and be a sole UK national

 

Role Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Storage and Backup Engineer to join our team. This role involves providing day-to-day administration of storage, backup, and SAN environments, with opportunities to support various projects and transition activities. The ideal candidate will have a background in infrastructure support, a keen interest in expanding skills in storage and backup, and a strong ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Business-As-Usual (BAU) support for SAN and backup environments.
  • Perform daily operational checks on storage and backup systems.
  • Manage storage allocation and deallocation processes.
  • Perform SAN switch zoning and firmware upgrades.
  • Configure and manage backups, including troubleshooting failed backups and ensuring successful tape management and rotation.
  • Maintain and update system documentation and produce management reports.
  • Implement changes according to the change management processes.
  • Resolve problems and incidents using ServiceNow (SNOW).
  • Conduct disaster recovery testing to ensure data protection and recovery readiness.
  • Participate in on-call support and work overtime as needed.

 

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with HP and EMC storage solutions.
  • Proficiency in managing Brocade and Cisco SAN switches.
  • Familiarity with storage management software.
  • Knowledge of SAN switch management commands (Brocade and Cisco).
  • Experience with Veritas NetBackup and other backup solutions such as EMC Networker and HP Data Protector.
  • Experience with incident and change management processes using ServiceNow (SNOW).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a methodical approach to problem-solving in storage and backup environments.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a proactive, can-do attitude.
  • Effective communication and active listening skills.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn, embrace new technologies, and support experienced team members.
  • Ability to identify and escalate issues to management when necessary.
