We are looking for a Dev Enablement Engineer on a 3-month contract to join our IT department in Milton Keynes. Reporting into the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for improving the overall developer experience by enhancing developer productivity, managing inner-sourcing processes, implementing process improvements, and maintaining effective communication and advocacy. You is role will also focus on engineering metrics, coaching, and managing developer tooling including IDEs and accelerators coupled with a strong focus on DevOps and process automation.
Key responsibilities of the Dev Enablement Engineer:
- Keep up to date regarding best practices in software development and deployment.
- Maintains up to date knowledge of latest automation and enablement techniques and patterns
- Play a key part in the introduction of process automation and software tooling across Connells Group, providing technical expertise and shaping the solution.
- Fosters a culture of observability across the engineering team. Helps teams across engineering use operational data to improve stability and performance of their applications.
- Contributes to technical direction and has the expertise to make decisions, identify areas of technical risk or concern and suggest actions to mitigate them.
- Drives automation best practices from within the Centre of Excellence, across the business.
- Key driver in the test first development mentality and responsible for re-enforcing its role in the software development process.
- Ability to articulate and convey the importance of approaches like TDD, code test coverage and utilise advanced software testing techniques and frameworks to improve visibility of these areas
- Ability to own and manage end-to-end development and deployment plans to ensure the team deliver on time and to budget.
- Building scalable and informative documentation in the form of references, guides, and code examples.
- Solid understanding of cloud-based solutions and how they can best be utilised.
- Able to establish a common “library” of know components to allow developers to utilise a standard toolset when completing tasks.
Experience & skills required to be successful as a Dev Enablement Engineer:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience building, owning and maintaining automation and workflow orchestration systems.
- Experience with designing and building system integrations using APIs and middleware.
- Experience working with connected systems and deployments.
- Strong experience with Azure infrastructure such Application gateway, express routes, API management service
- Ability to interpret, discuss and contribute to architecture approaches and solution designs.
- Experience working in an Agile development team (Scrum or Kanban).
- Ability to select and use the most appropriate tools, technologies, and languages for the job.
- Team-oriented, with a willingness to work as part of a collaborative environment.
- Skilled in software testing methodologies and a keen advocate of unit, integration and UI tests.
- Familiarity with pipeline integrated SAST tooling.
- Familiar with build pipeline management and extensions using YAML, Cake and PowerShell.
- Experience with IAC using Terraform or Bicep.
- Experience with Azure as a cloud platform along with its connected supporting services

Experience with the following applications / tools:
- SonarQube
- Snyk
- Octopus Deploy
- Playwright
- Familiarity with pipeline integrated DAST tooling.
- GitHub as source code management or experience with git using Azure DevOps.
- GitHub Actions for CI/CD or experience with similar.
- Solid understanding of C# Programming
- Experience with network routing and VNET and network security group
