Data Engineer at ZZOOMM plc, UK, £500-£600 per day

The DataEngineer role sits within our Systems & Development team and will help Zzoomm ensure that business data is well-understood, documented, maintained, and processed within the SysDev team and the wider business. 

You will work with business data from and within all business and operational support systems, collaborating with developers and system owners to ensure data is managed properly, in accordance with industry best practices and our regulatory requirements.

Your key responsibilities are:

• Management of data engineering tooling at Zzoomm, including introduction of systems where needed, in collaboration with the infrastructure engineering team
• Ensuring Zzoomm retains data no longer than necessary, that processing activities are documented, and that we hold and use data in ways that meet or exceed our regulatory and legal requirements for privacy and security
• Development of data processing pipelines using ETL software and other tools
• Design and maintenance of data sources for reporting purposes, with clear documentation
• Support system migration and change activities with data cleanup and checking
• Identify data errors, inconsistencies, and potential problems between systems
• Development of interfaces with system APIs to extract or load data as required
• Management of PostgreSQL databases and other data storage systems in our Amazon and on-premises environments
• Development of reporting dashboards and displays, in collaboration with other business teams, to allow for clear operational views of the business
• Documentation and management of business data objects
• Identifying opportunities for improvement in systems and processes to drive simplification of data at source and reduce complexity in downstream processing activities

Skills, Knowledge, Experience, & Attitude required to do this role...

• The ability to collaborate with diverse technical and operations teams
• Strong understanding of good data governance and relevant legislation (UK GDPR, etc)
• Experience of transformation programmes or projects involving system migrations
• Experience of PostgreSQL databases and general SQL and NoSQL (GraphQL etc) data manipulation
• Software engineering experience in at least one scripting or programming language
• Experience with data manipulation software and ETL tools such as Alteryx or Safe FME
• Understanding of telecoms operational and business support systems
