Azure Cloud Engineer (Inside IR35)

Contract Term: Until 31/03/2025

Contracting Authority: DSIT

Location: Remote - Occasional travel to either London or Birmingham office (twice a month)

As an Azure Cloud Engineer your main responsibilities will be to: 

  • Work in a small team that manages a secure Azure platform that caters for the analytical community.
  • Maintain and manage the Azure cloud platform.
  • Utilise Azure and work on modernising with new tools.
  • Transition services to PaaS.
  • Apply DevOps-style skills to enhance operations.
  • Ensure safe access to Azure resources, configure and enforce access policies, roles, and permissions.
  • Design, build, manage and support the infrastructure services that underpin all internal user services and public services.
  • Work in a team of infrastructure specialists and engineers to support and maintain infrastructure solutions and services as directed and according to departmental policy.
  • Ensure services are delivered and used as required; work with and support third parties to provide infrastructure services.
  • Investigate problems in systems, processes and services, understanding the level of a problem.
  • Produce detailed designs and document all work using required standards, methods and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate.
  • Build and test simple interfaces between systems or can work on more complex integration as part of a wider team.

You’ll have relevant experience in:

  • This position requires active Security Clearance (SC). You must be eligible and willing to undergo relevant checks for SC.
  • Extensive Azure experience.
  • Strong understanding of Azure cloud services and architecture.
  • Proficiency with Azure Data Factory (ADF) and Databricks.
  • Azure PaaS Configurations.
  • Ability to configure service endpoints, private endpoints, and load balancers for Azure resources.
  • Networking - Strong skills in Windows administration and knowledge of configuring Azure DNS.
  • Running Windows and Linux virtual machines on the cloud (Azure).
  • Monitoring and maintaining Azure resources.
  • Managing storage solutions for virtual database files, hard disks, application data, Azure files, Data Lake, etc.
  • Scripting and Automation proficiency in PowerShell, Bash, BICEP, Python, Azure CLI, and Azure PowerShell.
  • Experience in Identity and Access Management (IAM), managing identities and groups in Azure AD.
  • Azure security skills, including data encryption and Entra account protection.
