Technical Writer (Inside IR35)

Contract Term: 3 Months

Contracting Authority: Cabinet Office

Location: Hybrid Working – Three days per week in either Bristol or Manchester

The Cabinet Office is on a journey to transform its use of data to a path of data confidence in line with the CO Digital Data Strategy. The Data Management Team supports the foundationwork through rolling out the enterprise data catalogue across the department and improving data governance practices through setting frameworks and standards.
As part of the data management team the data maturity assessment has been introduced by the government to help public sector organisations to measure, improve and maintain the health and strength of our data ecosystems.
In the first year we aim to use the data maturity assessment for government and its framework to carry out a self-assessment using the 10 topics, intersected six themes against the 4 maturity levels.

As a Technical Writer, your main responsibilities will be

  • To lead the existing IT service communications processes, reviews and approvals while driving improvement through standardisation and user/stakeholder feedback loops.
  • To use a variety of software to maintain and update user and group distribution lists.
  • To work closely with the Delivery team to create and maintain a communication plan for all projects to contribute to the planning and delivery of the team’s portfolio roadmap.
  • To develop content (including website content, user guides, surveys and briefings) for multiple complex changes.
  • To communicate with stakeholders at all levels, including managing senior stakeholder expectations.


You’ll have relevant experience in:


  • Have a strong understanding of IT to translate and write communications for technical services with both technical and non-technical audiences in mind.
  • Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills to extract knowledge from technical and process experts.
  • An ability to work in a fast-paced environment and deliver to deadlines while coordinating work across distributed teams.
  • Have the confidence to showcase your work, challenge poor documentation practices, and receive constructive feedback from peers.
