Lead Technical Architect - Inside IR35

Contract Term: 8 months (until 31/03/2025)

Contracting Authority: Ministry of Defence

Location: Hybrid – Corsham

As a Lead Technical Architect, you will assure other services and system quality, making sure the technical work fits into the broader strategy for government. You will be responsible for leading the technical design of systems and services, including detailed plans for integration. You will also explore the benefits of cross-government alignment of systems and services.

You will be the primary interface for technical requirements and product design. In addition, you will own the creation and delivery of the technical strategy. You will be responsible for building optimal designs through an iterative process by actively driving post implementation reviews and leading the identification of best practice and lessons learnt.


As a Lead Technical Architect your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Be responsible for leading the technical design of systems and services, justifying and communicating design decisions.
  • Assure other services and system quality, ensuring the technical work fits into the broader strategy for government.
  • Explore the benefits of cross-government alignment.
  • Provide mentoring within teams.
  • Provide leadership to other architects.
  • Evaluate the success of a project, once the solution has been integrated, identifying best practices and lessons learned.
  • Provide feedback to leadership and incorporating best practices and lessons learned into future integration plans.
  • Manage, coach and mentor more junior Technical Architects.



  • An active SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be eligible and willing to undergo these checks.
  • You can mediate between people and mend relationships, communicating with stakeholders at all levels.
  • You can evolve and define governance and can take responsibility for working with and supporting other staff in wider governance.
  • You can make decisions characterised by medium levels of risk and complexity and recommend decisions as risk and complexity increase.
  • You can define and challenge strategies, patterns, standards, policies, roadmaps and vision statements.
  • You can design systems characterised by high levels of risk, impact, and business or technical complexity.
  • Experience of integrating technologies into corporate systems.
